Exactly a year ago, Thales Leites won a chance to dispute the UFC belt against Anderson Silva, but what happened in UFC 97 surprised the fan all over the world. Anderson did not attack as he uses to, Thales couldn’t impose his game and the duel ended up in the judge’s decision, a new thing for Anderson on the UFC.
On this year’s April, the history has repeated itself. Again against the black belt, Demian Maia, the UFC champ let the fight to be decided by the judges, but Anderson’s posture caused polemic. Fired from UFC months after the duel with the “Spider”, Thales Leites talked to TATAME and commented the fight between Anderson and Demian.
“I think that the difference between my fight and Demian’s is that he got frustrated in the beginning but then he got confident in the end. With me was the opposite, I froze when it was getting to the end”, said the Nova União fighter. “Independently of what happened to me, I think that Demian went there to fight, and so did Anderson... There are things that are complicated to judge”.
In a 25 minutes fight, Anderson and Demian exchanged accusations inside the octagon. The champion complained about the lack of action of his opponent, who screamed against the “jokes”. “Fight against Anderson is not easy, he’s a really unusual guy, changes a lot and do things you won’t believe, but Demian tried”, commented Thales.

Há exatamente um ano, Thales Leites ganhou a chance de disputar o cinturão do UFC contra Anderson Silva, mas o que aconteceu dentro no UFC 97 surpreendeu os fãs em todo o mundo. Anderson não atacou como antes, Thales não conseguiu impor seu jogo, e o duelo terminou na decisão dos juízes, algo que Anderson nunca havia deixado acontecer no UFC.
Em abril deste ano, a história se repetiu. Novamente contra um faixa-preta, o paulista Demian Maia, o campeão do UFC deixou a luta ser definida pelos jurados, mas a atuação de Anderson gerou ainda mais polêmica. Procurado pela TATAME, Thales Leites, que acabou demitido do UFC meses depois do duelo com o “Spider”, comentou a luta entre Anderson e Demian.
“Acho que a diferença da minha luta para a do Demian é que ele se frustrou no começo da luta e foi se soltando mais para o final. Comigo foi o contrário, congelei mais para o fim da luta”, analisa o faixa-preta da Nova União. “Independente do que aconteceu, acho que o Demian foi para lutar, e o Anderson também... Tem coisas que é complicado de ficar julgando”.
Em 25 minutos de luta, Anderson e Demian ainda trocaram acusações dentro do octagon. O campeão reclamou da falta de ação do oponente, que por sua vez esbravejou contra as “brincadeiras”. “Lutar contra o Anderson não é fácil, ele é um cara muito atípico, ele muda demais, faz coisas que você não acredita, mas o Demian tentou”, comentou Thales.
