Diretamente ligado à existência do maior evento de lutas do MMA mundial, Mestre Hélio é pai de Rorion Gracie, criador do evento, em 1993, e de Royce Gracie, faixa-preta que dominou as primeiras edições do evento com as técnicas ensinadas por Hélio.
