Supercharge bets on Ewerton at K-1 WGP

New Zealand’s KickBoxing Champion and former K-1 fighter, Jayson “Supercharge” Vermoa is training Ewerton Teixeira, and is excited for K-1 World GP finals. With the Brazilian scheduled to face the Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem on the quarter finals, the coach spoke with TATAME.com about the tournament. “Alistar Overeem is our first step and first focus, he will not be an easy opponent but that will just make winning all that much better”, Vermoa said, seeing a hard night for the Brazilian.

“It is well known in the 8 man K-1 tournaments of this magnitude that luck plays a small part on the night, so we will welcome the prays of encouragement from fans. Anyone of the 8 fighters in the tournament can win K-1 WGP Crown and from my experience we must also watch for the reserve match fighters as 70% of the time they seem to emerge in this type of K-1 competition”, said, with the experience from who trained legends as Ray Sefo.

“It will be a hard fight overall and a good test for Ewerton”, Jason said. “He has the hardest line up of opponents, first in the quarter final match against Alistar Overeem (Holland), with the next possibilities in the Semi- final of matching against Badr Hari (Morocco) or an explosive 'Badr Hari nemesis' Ruslan Karaev (Russia) and then last of all a high possibility in the Final of facing the favourite of Pool.B. Semmy Schilt (Holland)”.

And “Supa” is confident: “The facts are Teixeira has the least K-1 experience in the tournament but he makes up for that with his ability to learn fast and bring forth the Kyokushin Spirit that earnt him the 9th World Kyokushin Championship Crown in 2007. From Team Ichigeki here inJapan we are confident of Teixeira's new found skill level in K-1 and we always train him to win. Those in martial arts understand Kyokushin's Fight Mentality; you are there until the end, until only one champion remains. There can only be one”, Jayson said. About K-1’s last event, when Glaube Feitosa lost in a polemical decision to Errol Zimmerman, the coach comments the fight.

“I have my own personal reservations on that fight.  I thought the fight showed everyone that Glaube Feitosa (Brazil) has improved back to his winning K-1 form and it showed Zimmerman (Carucao)  stayed at the same level since the first time they met. It was confusing to have K-1 Fighting Legends come up to Glaube straight after the fight saying he won it when the fact still remains Zimmerman was given the 2-0 decision by the K-1 judges and is in the Final 8 for 2009. End of the day we have to respect the K-1 judges decision; the battle was lost but the war for K-1 domination continues”, finished the coach.
