Trying to know the reasons why our idols moved to United States, nothing better than start the story with Wanderlei Silva, the first to decide to move out to United States, on August 2007. On the opposite of the tense and reflexive face that he received us in his house on March 2008, when still train on Randy Couture’s gym and didn’t know for sure how and when he’ll build his own team, this time we’ve met a new Wanderlei. Not just because of the plastic surgery he just made on his face, two weeks before, but specially for the big smile. A happiness feeling that was never seen on Wanderlei on Pride times, nor the Wanderlei I interviewed for the first time in a small room behind his dad’s bar in Curitiba, when he used to fight for a piece of chicken wing.
In these three days in Vegas I could know all the faces of this new Wanderlei: the family guy, who takes his wife and son to the church every Sunday; the coach that gets really excited with his pupils victories on the ring; the business man who open and close the gym; the teacher that teaches MMA every day; the idol that made American fans crazy for wherever he goes, that promises to be back to the octagon of UFC on 2010. The short version of all of them you’ll follow on the interview.
