After six editions in a ring, Real Fight followed the world trend and made its seventh edition in an octagon. Besides the cage, the event puts for the first time two title fights. With four thousand people in the crowd, the night at São José dos Campos, São Paulo, was hot, and they saw André Chatuba (170 pounds ) and Jorge Michelan (185 pounds ) taking the belts of their respective categories. For coincidence, the both athletes came from defeats, but showed technique to turn things up and go back to victories.
After losing the Shooto middleweight title, breaking a 12 win sequence, André Chatuba had the chance to conquer another belt, this time from the category above. Against Mário Soldado, who hasn’t lost until then and had six victories on his record, Chatuba started taking the Cristiano Marcello’s pupil down, who quickly fit a triangle on the Luta Livre black belt. Chatuba defended the position, but then he saw himself in an arm-lock, defend one more time. Inside Soldado’s guard, Robson Relma’s student started to punish with punches, opening a cut on Soldado’s eyebrow. The doctors were called and, after analyzing the cut, forbidden Soldado to be back, giving the title to André.
“That’s my category, it’s been a long time I fight on it. I fought as a middleweight because I was pretentious (laughs). I think there was a judge mistake in Fortaleza (Shooto), because I wasn’t knocked out, but I had this new opportunity here on Real Fight. It wasn’t as I wanted, I wanted to fight, but unfortunately it happens, my opponent got hurt and the doctor interrupted”, commented Chatuba.
Michelan submits Fabrício Monteiro
On the fight for the middleweight title, Jorge Michelan (Checkmat) showed a lot of will to return to the victories way. Semi finalist of the Fury GP, Michelan came from defeats to Gustavo Ximú on WFC and to Erick Silva on Jungle Fight 14. Michelan needed to win, but he knew that on the other side it will bet he experienced Fabrício Monteiro. Gracie Fusion’s athlete weren’t fighting for a year, winning only one fight between 2007 and 2008, but already fought in Deep, facing MMA legends as José Pelé Landi.
BJJ black belt, Fabrício took the fight to his area, where he punished Michelan with punches of half guard and on ground and pound. Michelan, brown belt under Leozinho Vieira, didn’t give up and tried some the leg locks and the foot locks. On the final of the round, Michelan used a leg lock one more time, forcing Monteiro to tap at 4min56s. “I’m coming from a war, I was on a bad phase, came from two defeats and I has an injury on my feet. Thanks God I could make my game on the ground, it was hard to me at the beginning, but then my Jiu-Jitsu was bigger. I knew I will face Fabrício, an exceptional guy, I’m his fan, I could put my strategy, made everything right, I wasn’t passive as on the last fights and I’m trying to be more aggressive”, analyzed Michelan.
