It’s official! Former UFC heavyweight champion and Pride legend, Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will take on undefeated Cain Velasquez at UFC 108, which takes place at January 2, to define the next contender to the title.
“Nogueira vs. Velasquez is a great matchup between the present and the future of the heavyweight division”, White said. “Nogueira showed in the Couture fight that he still has plenty left to offer at the top level of the game, and Velasquez was devastating in his win over Ben Rothwell, so with both guys in top form, we’re definitely going to see a number one contender emerge from this fight to take on the winner of the Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin title fight”.

O maior peso pesado brasileiro da história do MMA terá a chance de chegar novamente ao topo da categoria do UFC. Após atropelar Randy Couture no UFC 102, Rodrigo Minotauro fará a luta principal do UFC 108, que acontece no dia 2 de janeiro, contra o invicto Cain Velasquez.
“Nogueira x Velasquez é uma grande luta entre o presente e o futuro dos pesos pesados”, disse Dana White, anunciando o combate. “Nogueira mostrou contra Couture que ainda tem muito a mostrar, e Velasquez foi devastador na sua vitória sobre Ben Rothwell, então os dois estão no auge da sua forma”.
Além da vitória, os pesos pesados buscam o posto de próximo candidato ao título. “Veremos o candidato número um nessa luta, que enfrentará o vencedor da luta entre Brock Lesnar e Shane Carwin”, revelou o promotor, sem divulgar quando acontecerá a disputa de cinturão. Além do baiano, outro brasileiro estará em ação na noite. Vindo de vitória sobre Keith Jardine, o paulista Thiago Silva enfrentará o ex-campeão Rashad Evans.
