The staph infection that putted Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira away from the fight against Cain Velasquez changed UFC’s plans, and they had to cancel the UFC 108 main event. On the other side, the change putted other Brazilian on the main fight of the night. Coming from a great victory over Keith Jardine, the American Top Team Thiago Silva will face the former champion Rashad Evans.
"The bout between Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva is a fight we always talked about as a main event, and now these guys have the chance to headline UFC 108 and kick off the new year in impressive fashion", Dana White said.

A infecção que afastou Rodrigo Minotauro da luta contra Cain Velasquez acabou mudando os planos do UFC, que teve que cancelar a luta principal do UFC 108. Por outro lado, a mudança colocou outro brasileiro no combate principal da noite. Vindo de excelente vitória sobre Keith Jardine, o paulista Thiago Silva enfrentará o ex-campeão Rashad Evans.
“A luta entre Rashad Evans e Thiago Silva é uma luta que sempre quisemos como luta principal da noite, e sabemos que esses caras são capazes de começar o ano da melhor maneira possível no UFC 108”, elogia Dana White, presidente do UFC, enquanto lamenta a ausência de Minotauro: “ao mesmo tempo, desejamos a Antônio Nogueira uma rápida recuperação, mal podemos esperar pelo seu retorno”.
Na semana passada, Thiago Silva conversou com a TATAME sobre a expectativa para a luta contra Rashad Evans. “Todo mundo pode esperar uma luta movimentada. Todos sabem que eu sou um cara agressivo, mas também chega um certo ponto que a gente tem que ser agressivo, mas inteligente.
