Shine Fights signs with Joaquim “Mamute”

Joaquim “Mamute” is one more Brazilian to sign with Shine Fights, American event that must make ist third edition in March. “Very cool... Thank God I’m in an international event, my first fight on United States... I’m very excited, I’ll bring it on”, guarantee Mamute, who will change to a category below.

With 11 fights on career, Vinícius Draculino’s black belt was known out of Brazil because of other heavyweight. New sensation of UFC, Junior “Cigano” passed thru four opponents on the biggest event of the world, but Mamute ruined his clean card before he shines out of Brazil.

In 2007, Mamute lost Andre Mussi on the semi finals of XFC GP, but because of an injury the winner couldn’t go to the finals. To don’t arruin the end of the party, Mamute got back to the ring to an intensive exchanging with Cigano, but the tired of the rest fight made the judge to end the fight before ten minutes.

The revenge months later, when Mamute and Cigano met again on MLT, after Joaquim revenge the defeat to Mussi. The black belt showed that Cigano wasn’t ready at that time to a ground fight, submiting with an arm lock in a little more than one minute.

On the way to USA, Mamute talked to TATAME about the expectation to debut, the technical evolution since the first defeats, Cigano’s sucess on UFC and the reflex that it brought to his career, the wish to shine on UFC and a lot more. Check below the exclusive chat with Joaquim.

How’s the expectation to debut on Shine?

Very cool. After July, that last fight I made on M-1, I stood still for a while, but thank God I’ll fight on an event outside, my first fight on USA... I’m very excited, I’ll brig it on. The trainings here in Belo Horizonte are great.

Are you anxious to debut on USA?

I don’t get that way to be fighting on USA, even because there are a lot of good guys in Brazil. I fought with a lot of good people here too, so I’m calm. I’ll probably fight in a new category.

One of the guys you beat today, Cigano, is making sucess on UFC. How do you see it?

I don’t think much about Cigano. I cheer for him every time I watch his fights, after all, he’s Brazilian. When Cigano went to UFC, everyone came to ask me that, but I told everyone to keep the eyes on him, that he would be big on UFC. Who doesn’t like to know that the guy you defeated is shining on UFC? Now it’s him, and tomorrow, if it’s God’s willing, it’s gonna be me.

Do you think that this victory over him helped you to get contracts with M-1 and Shine?

Sure, everyone see that he has a defeat to me. If you see my card, I had only two defeats until M-1, one with almost ten minutes of exchanging with Cigano. Judge interrupted because my eyes were very hurt, I couldn’t see. I wasn’t going to fight because I had lost the fight before, but I cracked (André) Mussi with a kimura nd that’s why he can’t come back.

In what do you think you and him evolved since these fights?

He, at least since the fight with me, evolved so much, he got really better. But training with the guys he trains, it’s impossible not to evolve, only if you don’t want to. I think the sky ist he limit to him. About the other fight (on MLT) I couldn’t see much because were more on the ground, that’s what everyone wants to see from him on UFC now. I’m evolving too, training hard. My sparrings changed a little, I got my Boxe better, that’s what was missing to me standing up.

How do you think it’s going to bet he fight between Cigano and Gabriel Gonzaga?

Napão is from Jiu-Jitsu’s old school, he has a lot of titles on kimono and submission. If Napão takes him down it can be complicated, but I don’t know how’s Cigano’s ground. But if Napão exchanges will be hard to him. With the exchanging that Cigano is now, it won’t take long to he get on the top. He won’t be on top only because of Minotauro, he always says that he’s going to be his guardian.

Algoz de Cigano assina com o Shine Fights

Joaquim “Mamute” é mais um brasileiro a assinar contrato com o Shine Fights, evento americano que deve realizar sua terceira edição em março deste ano. “Bacana demais... Graças a Deus estou em um evento de fora, minha primeira luta nos Estados Unidos... Estou ‘animadasso’, vou voltar com tudo”, garante Mamute, que descerá de categoria.

Com 11 lutas na carreira, o faixa-preta de Vinícius Draculino ficou conhecido fora do Brasil com a ascensão de outro peso pesado. Nova sensação do UFC, Junior “Cigano” já tratorizou quatro oponentes no maior evento do mundo, mas Mamute tratou de “sujar” o cartel do casca-grossa antes dele brilhar fora do país.

Em 2007, Mamute perdeu para Andre Mussi na semifinal do GP do XFC, mas uma lesão impediu que o vencedor avançasse à final. Para não estragar o fim da festa, Mamute voltou ao ringue e fez uma luta de trocação intensa com Cigano, mas o cansaço e a “lataria amassada” da primeira luta fez com que o árbitro encerrasse a luta pouco antes dos dez minutos.

A revanche veio meses depois, quando Mamute e Cigano se reencontraram na MTL, pouco tempo depois de Joaquim vingar a derrota para Mussi. O faixa-preta mostrou que Cigano ainda não estava pronto naquela época para uma luta de chão, finalizando a luta com um arm-lock em pouco mais de um minuto.

A caminho dos Estados Unidos, Mamute conversou com a TATAME sobre a expectativa para a estreia, a evolução técnica desde as primeiras derrotas, o sucesso de Cigano no UFC e os reflexos que isto trouxe para sua carreira, o desejo de brilhar no UFC e muito mais. Como está a expectativa para a estreia no Shine?

Bacana demais. Depois de julho, daquela última luta que fiz no M-1, acabei ficando um tempo parado, mas graças a Deus vou lutar um evento lá fora, minha primeira luta nos Estados Unidos... Estou ‘animadasso’, vou voltar com tudo. Os treinos aqui em Belo Horizonte estão fervendo.

Você está ansioso para estrear nos EUA?

Eu não fico muito apreensivo por estar lutando nos Estados Unidos, até porque o Brasil tem muito cara bom. Já lutei com muita gente boa aqui também, até por isso estou bem tranquilo. Provavelmente vou lutar até 93kg, uma categoria nova para mim. Nunca lutei nesse peso, a menor que lutei até hoje foi em Juiz de Fora, até 100kg. Nem lembro quando foi a última vez que pesei 93kg, acho que foi quando eu tinha uns 17 anos (risos).

Um dos caras que você já venceu hoje, o Cigano, está fazendo bastante sucesso no UFC. Como você vê isso?

Eu penso pouco no Cigano. Toda vez que vejo as lutas dele torço demais por ele, afinal de contas é brasileiro. Quando o Cigano foi para o UFC, todo mundo vinha me perguntar isso, mas eu falava para ficarem de olho nele, que ele seria um dos grandes do UFC. Quem não gosta de saber que um cara que você derrotou está brilhando lá fora? Luta é coisa de tempo, hoje ele está lá e amanhã, se Deus quiser, serei eu.

Você acha que essa vitória sobre ele te ajudou a conseguir os contratos com o M-1 e o Shine?

Lógico, não deixa de ser uma vitrine, todo mundo vê que ele tem uma derrota para mim e isso não deixa de me expor lá fora. Se você vir meu cartel, eu só tinha duas derrotas até o M-1, uma delas de quase dez minutos de trocação com o Cigano. O juiz parou a luta porque eu estava com o olho muito inchado, não estava nem enxergando. Eu não ia nem lutar, porque perdi a luta anterior, mas estalei o (André) Mussi com uma kimura e por isso ele não pode voltar.

Em que você acha que ele e você evoluíram desde essas lutas?

Ele, pelo menos desde a luta comigo, evoluiu demais, está de parabéns, melhorou muito. Mas, também, treinando com caras que ele treina, é impossível não evoluir, só se você não quiser mesmo. Eu acho que o céu é o limite para ele. Em relação à outra luta (na MTL), não deu pra ver muito porque foi mais chão, é o que todo mundo quer ver dele no UFC agora. Eu continuo evoluindo também, treinando forte. Meus sparrings mudaram um pouco, dei uma melhorada boa no Boxe e acho que a parte em pé era o que tinha faltado pra mim.

Como você acha que vai ser a luta entre o Cigano e o Napão?

O Napão é da “old school” do Jiu-Jitsu, um cara que tem vários títulos de quimono e Submission. Eu acho que se o Napão derrubar pode complicar, mas falo isso porque não sei como está o chão do Cigano. Mas, se o Napão tentar trocar, vai ficar ruim pra ele. Com a trocação que o Cigano está hoje, não demora a ele estar no topo. Ele só não vai chegar no topo por causa do Minotauro, ele sempre diz que vai ser o guardião dele.
