Manager of some of the best MMA fighters of the world, like the Nogueira brothers, Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva, Jorge Guimarães spoke to TATAME.com about the future of Rodrigo “Minotauro”, after the first round loss to Cain Velasquez, among other things. Check below the exclusive chat:
You manage the career of some of the best Brazilian fighters. How difficult is to deal with a lot o stars?
I feel privileged to work with the fighters I work. The biggest difficulty is time enough to deal with all of them. That’s why a good partner and a competent team are indispensable.
Ricardo Arona is still without contract and manager. Did you talked with him?
Ricardo Arona never called us… I tried to talk with him last year, Affliction‘s matchmaker Tom Atencio tried everything to sign him. I never negotiated anything for him.
How you and Ed Soares are dealing with Paulo Filho’s career in this complicated moment in his life? Do you believe we’ll ever see him back in a big event?
You can fix anything ni this life, you just need to be alive. Paulo is very talented, has a great family and he only depends on himself now. Recently, we offered him great opponents in big events, but he wasn’t 100% to get in action.
How if Paulo’s image in the American and Japanese markets?
It’s not a secret that Paulo is in a bad phase, and undoubtedly it bad or any athlete in this situation.
After Rodrigo Minotauro’s loss, has the UFC said anything about his next fight? Did you ask for a specific fight?
The UFC didn’t say anything yet, it’s too soon. Depending on the result of Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin fight, we’d lot to have a rematch with Frank Mir.

Hoje você cuida da carreira de alguns dos melhores atletas brasileiros. Como é lidar com estas estrelas? Quais as maiores dificuldades?
Eu me sinto privilegiado em trabalhar com os atletas que eu trabalho, sem exceção. A maior dificuldade é tempo suficiente para cuidar dessas feras. Por isso um bom sócio e uma equipe competente são fundamentais
O Ricardo Arona ainda está sem evento e sem empresário. Ele já te procurou?
O Ricardo Arona nunca nos procurou... Eu inclusive tentei entrar em contato com ele, já que na época do Affliction o matchmaker Tom Atencio estava tentando de tudo para contratar o Arona. Nunca negociei nada para ele.
Como você e o Ed Soares estão conduzindo a carreira do Paulão Filho neste momento complicado da vida dele? Você acredita que ainda este ano poderemos vê-lo em um grande evento de MMA?
Acho que pode se dar jeito em tudo nessa vida, basta estar vivo. O Paulão é super talentoso, tem uma boa estrutura familiar, e nesse momento só depende dele. Recentemente, oferecemos adversários em grandes eventos, mas ele não estava 100% para entrar em ação...
Como está a imagem do Paulão no mercado americano e japonês?
Não é segredo que o Paulão atravessa uma fase difícil, e sem dúvida isso depõe contra qualquer atleta nessa situação.
Após a derrota do Rodrigo “Minotauro”, o UFC já disse quem poderá ser o adversário dele? Vocês pediram por alguém em especial?
