Two-time absolute world champion of Jiu-Jitsu, Roger Gracie fought yesterday for the first time on Strikeforce. Three weeks before the World of soft art, Gracie confronted Kevin Randlemand, UFC’s former champion.
“I’m really glad. I knew how it would be, so I worked really hard the jabs to keep him away, mainly the right-handed hook… I knew that if I kept my distance I would have an advantage on this fight”, explains Gracie, who submitted the American with a rear naked choke on the second round, after dominated the standing part on the first round.
“I knew he would expect me to try to take him down on the first round, so I could not hurry. I felt a comfortable and secure standing, so I was not in a hush for taking him down”, tells Roger, who does not think about resting. “I’ll be back for the World of Jiu-Jitsu in three weeks, so I have to come back to the mat (laughs)”, concluded.

Bicampeão mundial absoluto de Jiu-Jitsu, Roger Gracie lutou ontem pela primeira vez no Strikeforce. Três semanas antes do Mundial da arte suave, o Gracie enfrentou Kevin Randleman, ex-campeão do UFC.
“Eu estou muito feliz. Eu sabia como seria, então trabalhei muito os jabs para mantê-lo longe, principalmente o gancho de direita... Eu sabia que se mantivesse a distância teria uma grande vantagem na luta”, explica o Gracie, que finalizou o americano com um mata-leão no segundo round, após dominar a luta em pé no round inicial.
“Eu sabia que ele esperaria que eu tentasse uma queda no primeiro round, então eu não queria me precipitar. Me senti muito seguro em pé, então não tive pressa para derrubá-lo”, conta Roger, que não pensa em descanso. “Vou lutar no Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu daqui a três semanas, então tenho que voltar aos tatames (risos)”, finalizou.
