With three consecutive victories inside the UFC octagon, Rousimar Palhares is looking for some space in the biggest MMA event on earth. Up against the tough Nate Marquardt, his opponent on UFC 118, the Brazilian from the city of Dores do Indaiá talked to TATAME and, with his usual humility, revealed that his main goal is his evolution.
“I’m not thinking about his game yet, I’m focused on my weak points. Let’s work with him in mind nearer the fight, then we’ll see what are his good points and weakness. Now I’m concerned about my evolution”, Palhares said, commenting his trainings on Brazilian Top Team. “The work is doing great, I’m training really hard. I’m doing what I’m used to, training my Jiu-Jitsu, Wresling, Boxing, Muay Thai… I’m improving on the best possible way”, tells.
With Murilo Bustamante back to Brazil after a season on the United States, the middleweight has a high level training partner and a great example to follow, once Murilo was the first Brazilian to become a champion on Rousimar’s division on UFC. “It’s being great, he’s following and training along with me, since he’ll fight (on Impact FC). We’ve been training a lot together… He’s doing great flights, he’ll do a great comeback”, predicts, getting excited when it comes to the possible comeback of Murilo to UFC: “It’d be awesome (laughs)”.
HIM WHO SAYS TOO MUCH…
Being the next challenger for the title, Chael Sonnen won the right to face Anderson Silva after beating Nate Marquardt, and a win over the American can mean a huge step for Rousimar in his road for making his dream come true. But the Brazilian is not worried about that. “I don’t know, maybe... It can be, but it’s all up to the boss (laughs)”, jokes, predicting the parity on the bout between Silva and Sonnen. “It’s 50-50. When you’re up there, anything can happen”.
On Rousimar’s opinion, the provocations of the polemic Chael Sonnen can an overturn on the bout against Anderson on UFC 117. “Everybody talks, but the speech changes when you’re in there (laughs). He’s been saying too much before proving anything. When he’ll get there, he’ll gas because he spent too much energy on speaking (laughs)”, jokes Rousimar, who faces Marquard on UFC 118 pay-per-view card, in Massachusetts, USA.

Toquinho pensa em si antes de Marquardt

Com três vitórias consecutivas no UFC, Rousimar Toquinho ainda está buscando o seu lugar ao sol no maior evento de MMA do planeta. Diante do duríssimo Nate Marquardt, adversário que encara no UFC 118, o mineiro da cidade de Dores do Indaiá conversou com a TATAME e, com a humildade de sempre, revelou que seu principal objetivo é a evolução.
“Eu ainda não estou pensando no jogo dele (Marquardt), estou consertando os meus pontos fracos. Vamos trabalhar pensando nele mais perto da luta, ver o que ele tem de bom e o que tem de menos qualidade. Agora, estou preocupado na minha evolução”, afirmou Toquinho, comentando os treinos na Brazilian Top Team. “O trabalho está de vento em popa, treinando pra caramba. Estou treinando tudo igual, a parte de Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxe, Muay Thai... Velho melhorando na medida do possível”, conta.
Com a volta de Murilo Bustamante ao Brasil após uma temporada nos Estados Unidos, Toquinho ganhou um companheiro de treinos de alto nível e um grande exemplo, uma vez que Murilo foi o primeiro brasileiro a se tornar campeão na categoria de Rousimar no UFC. “Está sendo legal, ele está acompanhando e treinando também, já que ele vai lutar (no Impact FC). A gente está treinando bastante junto... O cara está voando baixo, ele vai voltar bem”, prevê, se animando quando o assunto é a possível volta de Murilo ao UFC: “Ia ser bacana (risos)”.
QUEM FALA DEMAIS...
Próximo desafiante ao título do UFC, Chael Sonnen ganhou o direto de enfrentar Anderson Silva após derrotar Nate Marquardt, e uma vitória sobre o americano pode deixar Toquinho ainda mais de realizar seu sonho. Porém, o mineiro não pensa sobre isso. “Eu não sei, quem sabe... Pode ser que sim, tudo depende do chefe (risos)”, brinca, prevendo igualdade na luta entre Anderson e Sonnen. “É 50% pra cada lado. Subiu ali, tudo pode acontecer”.
Na opinião de Rousimar, as provocações do polêmico Chael Sonnen podem voltar contra si na luta contra Anderson, no UFC 117. “Todo mundo fala, mas quando chega lá muda (risos). Ele está falando muito antes de não provar nada. Quando chegar lá dentro ele não vai nem ter energia de tanto que ficou falando (risos)”, se diverte Toquinho, que faz uma das lutas principais do UFC 118, programado para o dia 28 de agosto em Massachusetts.
