TATAME magazine available in english

In the early 90’s, Royce Gracie terrified the fighting world in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, an event put on by his brother Rorion in order to spread jiu-jitsu and prove that this fighting style was the most efficient in actual combat. Within this context, TATAME magazine emerged, a pioneer in the martial arts segment in Brazil. With 15 years of history, TATAME magazine is recognized for its independence, impartiality, and for the quality of its published material. Focusing on the growth of jiu-jitsu in the United States and the world, its time now for TATAME to publish in the English language and to be able to contribute to the evolution of fighting on the world stage.

In this first special edition, we’ve brought you everything that took place in the fifteenth World Jiu-Jitsu Championship and just as it was 15 years ago, a member of the Gracie clan made the headlines. Roger Gracie continues placing his family on top and making history on the mats. In this World Championship, Gracie set an historic mark of seven titles in his division and the never before three time world absolute division championship, bringing the total to 10 world titles as a black-belt. Among the topics, you can also follow every champion’s show in a Mundial that broke all the records over 14 years of history.

However, the Mundial doesn’t only revolve around great black-belt champions. Just as we’ve done in our Brazilian edition, we’ve shown that our eyes are set on the international jiu-jitsu market. To prove it, we’ve included a special article showing that American, Danish, Swiss, among other countries, have increased their number of medals over the last five years, and we’ve pointed out a few talented fighters who may soon be able to repeat the feats of BJ Penn and Rafael Lovato Jr., the only non-Brazilians to win a world title as a black-belt.

Over 15 years of history, we’ve continually dreamed of seeing jiu-jitsu in the Olympic Games. With the growth of the sport worldwide and Rio de Janeiro having been chosen as the stage city for the 2016 Games, we’ve attempted to uncover what may be missing in order to see the gentle-art in the 2016 Olympics. This special edition also brings an article on the controversial 50/50 guard (fifty-fifty). We’ve presented their creators, shown you why it causes so many arguments, and we’ve debated whether or not the position is a step forward or backward for jiu-jitsu.

TATAME lança revista digital em inglês

No início dos anos 90, Royce Gracie aterrorizava o mundo das lutas no Ultimate Fighting Championship, um evento criado pelo seu irmão Rorion para difundir o Jiu-Jitsu e provar que a modalidade era a mais eficiente em combate real. Dentro deste contexto, surgiu a revista TATAME, pioneira no segmento de artes marciais no Brasil. Com 15 anos de história, a revista TATAME é reconhecida por sua independência, imparcialidade e pela qualidade do seu material publicado. De olho no crescimento do Jiu-Jitsu nos Estados Unidos e no mundo – também na era digital -, a TATAME resolveu publicar sua edição digital em inglês.

Nesta primeira edição especial, que trouxemos tudo o que aconteceu no décimo quinto Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu e, assimo como há 15 anos, um membro do clã Gracie é o destaque. Roger Gracie continua colocando a família no topo e vem fazendo história nos tatames. No Mundial deste ano, o Gracie bateu a marca histórica de sete títulos na categoria e três no absoluto, totalizando 10 títulos mundiais na faixa-preta. Na matéria, você poderá acompanhar todos os show do Mundial que quebrou todos os recordes em 14 anos de história.

No entanto, o Mundial não gira em torno apenas dos campeões da faixa-preta. Assim como fizemos em nossa edição brasileira, nós mostramos que nossos olhos estão fixados no mercado internacional de Jiu-Jitsu. Para provar isso, nós fizemos uma matéria especial que mostra que americanos, dinamarqueses, suíços, entre outros países, tem aumentado o número de medalhas nos últimos cinco anos. Nós apontamos também alguns lutadores talentosos que poderão em breve repetir as façanhas de BJ Penn e Rafael Lovato Jr., os únicos não-brasileiros a ganhar um título mundial na faixa-preta.

Nestes 15 anos de história, temos constantemente falado sobre a possibilidade de ver o Jiu-Jitsu nos Jogos Olímpicos. Com o crescimento do esporte no mundo todo e o Rio de Janeiro ter sido escolhida o palco para os Jogos de 2016, tentamos descobrir o que está faltando para termos a arte suave nos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016. Esta edição especial traz também um artigo sobre a polêmica guarda 50/50 (fifty-fifty). Vitor Vianna return to the rings in Las Vegas

Sparring of Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Vianna does not fight since May of 2008, but his comeback to the rings is scheduled. On the main event of MMA Xplosion, event that happens on July 31 in Las Vegas, Vitor faces BJ Lacy. On the same night, Jorge Lopez, one of the great bets of Wanderlei’s team, faces Dave Terrel.

Demian Maia trains for UFC on TATAME TV

Coming from a loss to Anderson Silva, the black belt Demian Maia wants to make a good comeback and do a great fight against the American Alan Belcher, and he is working hard for that. On a visit to Rafael Alejarra’s gym, we followed a train of physical preparation of UFC’s athlete for this bout, scheduled for September 15. “He’s without a doubt a tough guy, one of the tops of the division. For me it’s excellent to be back facing a guy of his level”, affirmed the Brazilian. TATAME: historical edition with two covers

Repeating the great success of May’s edition, when we innovated and launched for the first time an edition with two different covers, TATAME Magazine brings to you another historical edition. On TATAME #173, which will get to the newsstands from all Brazil this week, with Dana White and Roger Gracie on the covers, you can check all the exclusive and unmissable articles!

UFC in Brazil on 2011!

On a large scoop, TATAME found out that UFC will make an edition of the event in Brazil on 2011, and it already has a fixed place where it will take place: Sao Paulo. On the article, you will get to know every detail of the strategy UFC set to make a great comeback to Brazil, a country on which the event has done only one edition, in 1998, besides checking an exclusive interview with Dana White, president of Ultimate, and the manager Terence Mattar, UFC’s partner on this journey.

The World of records

When it comes to Jiu-Jitsu, World 2010 is the highlight. On a historical edition, we spoke with the new world recordists. Roger Gracie, three-time absolute and seven-time weight champion of the World, Bruno Malfacine, the only three-time champion of his division, the four-time champion Marcelinho Garcinha, besides the consecration of Rafael Mendes, Michael Langhi, Tarsis Humphreys and the women show in California.

Still on World’s mat, we analyzed the growth of the commitment of the non-Brazilians on the biggest competition of the soft art on earth and we wondered: can they break the Brazilian hegemony on the World? To do so, the foreigner athletes, who conquest over 120 medals on World 2010, will have to beat the future talents which are also a highlight of TATAME #173.

The new phase of Wanderlei Silva

Back to MMA, we talked with Wanderlei Silva in Las Vegas, United States, and followed his new phase as a coach, leading the team and celebrating his pupil’s wins on America. On the exclusive chat, Pride’s former champion praised Maurício Shogun’s win over Lyoto Machida and “passes the baton” to the southern guy, his “pupil” at the time they ruled Pride.

Being considered by many as the best heavyweight fighter from all times, Fedor Emelianenko is also on TATAME #173. On an exclusive interview, the Russian rejected the label as the best of the world and shot in Dana White’s direction, claiming he could already be on UFC. On our visit to California, we broke into the gym of the physical trainer Rafael Alejarra, who told us who is his work with stars of the caliber of Demian, Cigano, Xande, Cyborg, Royler, Minotouto, among others.

Carlos Gracie Jr. wants to see Jiu-Jitsu on the Olympic Games

Isso mereceu uma das capas. Em um grande furo de reportagem, a TATAME confirmou por fonte segura que o UFC realizará uma edição no Brasil em 2011, e já tem lugar definido: São Paulo. A matéria conta a estratégia utilizada para o Ultimate voltar com tudo ao Brasil após 13 anos, o que inclui a produção do reality show The Utimate Fighter só com brasileiros.
