With only one fight in 2009, that ended with a no contest, Ronaldo “Jacaré“ Souza wants to fight again this year. Without a scheduled date to debut on Strikeforce, rumors say that the fighter may face Matt Lindland in December.
“I only have rumors that I might fight in December, but Strikerforce didn’t announce anything yet“, said Souza, excited with the possibility to face Lindland. “If this fight happens, I’ll be very happy. He’s an excellent athlete... This fight is everything I wanted, fight with the best, only tough fighters“. In case of confirmation, it wouldn’t be the first time that Jacaré and Matt face each other.
On ADCC 2003, the fighters fought each other at the quarter finals, and the Brazilian won without much trouble with an arm-lock (remember on the video below). “It’s not Submission, it’s a whole different game on MMA“, guarantees Jacaré, excited for the debut. “The expectation is high, I’m training very focused. When the times comes, I’ll be ready to do my work and represent Brazil“, said.
While he doesn’t fight for Strikerforce, the Brazilian will watch his last opponent, Jason Miller, fight Jake Shields this Saturday for the vacant middleweight title. “It’s gonna be a beautiful fight. Shields has an excellent ground and so do Miller, so it’ll be a developed fight, but I think Miller physically stronger and he’s a little better standing up“, bets.

Com apenas uma luta em 2009, que terminou com uma trapalhada de Jason Miller (relembre aqui), Ronaldo “Jacaré” quer fechar o ano com chave de ouro. Sem data confirmada para estrear no Strikeforce, rumores são conta de que o lutador pode enfrentar o experiente Matt Lindland, que luta MMA há 12 anos.
“Só tenho rumores que devo lutar em dezembro, mas o Strikeforce ainda não anunciou nada”, disse, animado com a possibilidade de enfrentar Lindland. “Se confirmar essa luta, vou ficar muito feliz. Ele é um cara experiente, um excelente atleta... Essa luta é tudo o que eu queria, lutar com os melhores, os cascas-grossas”, disse o brasileiro. Caso o combate se confirme, não seria a primeira vez que Jacaré e Matt se enfrentariam.
No ADCC 2003, os lutadores se enfrentaram nas quartas-de-final do peso, e a vitória veio para Jacaré, que não teve muito trabalho para finalizar com um arm-lock (relembre no vídeo abaixo). “Não é Submission, no MMA a história muda, é outra coisa”, garante Jacaré, animado para a estreia. “A expectativa é alta, estou treinando muito focado. Quando chegar a hora, vou estar pronto para fazer o meu trabalho e representar bem o Brasil”, disse.
Enquanto não luta pelo Strikeforce, o brasileiro assistirá ao seu último oponente, Jason Miller, disputar o título da categoria contra Jake Shields. “Vai ser uma luta muito bonita. O Shields tem um chão excelente e o Miller também, então vai ser uma luta com muita desenvoltura, mas acho o Miller mais forte fisicamente e tem a parte em pé um pouco melhor”, apostou.
