The exchanging between MMA teams is normal in USA. Preparing to his next fight on UFC 109, against Mike Swick, the light middleweight Paulo Thiago talked to TATAME about the train marathon that he’s been doing in the Wonderful City. In Brasília, the Bope policeman catch the plain to Rio de Janeiro and trained on the teams Xtriker, of Anderson Silva, and Nova União. In an exclusive chat that you’ll see on TATAME, Paulo talked about the work on BOPE and compared the adrenalin on a MMA fight to shoot out in a slum.

When did you came in Rio?

I came Monday morning and I’ll be a couple of weeks in Rio... I’m preparing to my next fight with a help from my friends... I’m trying to be better.

What have changed, you was going to face Josh Koscheck and now you’ll face Mike Swick?

It changed a little on the style, but it’s the same preparation. The strategy changes a little, but I’m preparing to face a tough guy too, as I was to face Koscheck.

Do you believe that a new victory over Koscheck would put you next to the title again?

He’s top, he’s between the tops and is not just me but whoever that face him will be on the line.

What are you thinking about to train with Anderson and Xtriker guys? What tips are you receiving?

Anderson is an amazing guy, he understands a lot about fight and he’s giving me a lot of tips, I just have to thank them. His team is very good, the trains here on X-Gym are very strong, I can only thank to all.

How did this opportunity came?

Who presented me to the guys were Wallid, who knows everyone , and I said that I wanted to spend some time in Rio and he saw that here was the best place form e to train. I gave some trains on Nova União.

Will you get back to train on Nova União or will you be here?

I intend to give some trains on Nova União, I’ll be here and there. Trains there are different then here, the quantity of sparrings and trainings.

And what’s the difference between your trainment in Brasília and here?

The team I train is starting to grow now, there aren’t much high level guys as here, there’s a lot of people coming, wanting, but the level here is better because we have more high level athletes, competing internationally. I’m travelling like this to change a little.

How is your relation to BOPE? You’ll be far away for a month, did they set you free for training?

I’m on vacations now, but even if I weren’t they support me there, they admire my sport. I never had any problems with that.

Do you intend to drop the police career someday?

No, because I like to be a policeman and make part of BOPE, I feel home there and I don’t intend to get out.

What is the harder routine: Bope’s or MMA’s?

Both, besides different, but grateful, because when you like to do something, you make it happy. I love BOPE’s training and MMA too.

That’s the biggest adrenaline, a shootout or to be on an octagon?

It’s different, because on a shootout you don’t know what can happen, so the adrenaline gets high. On the ring the adrenaline is high but you’re prepared and you know what may come from the opponent.

Are you afraid that some fatality on the police may interrupt your career?

I’m not afraid, but I’m worried to don’t get hurt and don’t go back home, but we don’t keep this fear, ort his may disturb the operation. We try not to think about it and go on.

If you had to choose between the careers, what would you choose?

Then I wouldn’t think about me, but on my family, people who depend on me, so I think that MMA gives more money and maybe I’d choose MMA, but not because I prefer one or another, but for the money.
