Confirmed at Dream’s light heavyweight tournament, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, who doesn’t fight since last August, showed an extra excitement to be in the Japanese tournament. “We’re in… We’re going with everything, total pressure. Tournament in cool, give you an extra gas,” said the fighter to TATAME.com.
Besides the extra motivation for being in a tournament, Sobral has another reason to put his in the ring to get the title. “The opponents doesn’t matter, what I want is to win this belt,” guarantees the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, revealing that a fight against Gegard Mousasi, who defeated him in the American event and is also confirmed in the GP, would be great.
“Of course, a fight against him would have an extra flavor, but if it doesn’t happen I’m cool. I’m only worried with my side, training to beat him, beat everybody up there,” says, training hard in the United States. “I’m training since January, so I took a break, everything controlled by the physical coach. We’re going without too many excitement to not get in overtraining, but I feel like I’m 18 again”.
Besides training with great names of the MMA, like Wanderlei Silva and Fabricio Werdum, the black belt received Gustavo Ximu in his camp. “Without mentioning the guys from Gracie Barra, Márcio Feitosa, Carlos Gracie training together with us… The Gracie Barra army is all here… We have the striking army, the ground army, the wrestling army (laughs)… We’re getting ready, we’ll do whatever we need to win”.

Babalu: “Eu quero ganhar esse cinturão”

Confirmado no GP até 93kg do Dream, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, que não luta desde agosto do ano passado, mostrou animação extra para entrar no torneio japonês. “Estamos dentro... Vamos com tudo, pressão total. Torneio é maneiro, dá uma injeção extra de gás”, disse o lutador à TATAME.
Se não bastasse a empolgação para lutar o torneio, “Babalu” terá um motivo a mais para buscar o cinturão. “Adversário não importa para mim, eu quero é ganhar esse cinturão”, garante o ex-campeão do Strikeforce, reconhecendo que uma revanche contra Gegard Mousasi, algoz no evento americano e que também estará no GP, seria muito bem vinda.
“Lógico que uma luta contra ele tem um gosto extra, mas se não for está tranquilo. A preocupação é só do meu lado, é treinar para engolir ele, meter a porrada em todo mundo”, disse, treinando forte nos Estados Unidos. “Já vinha treinando desde janeiro, então dei uma folguinha, tudo controlado pelo preparador físico. Vamos sem muita empolgação para não entrar no overtraining, mas a vontade é como se tivesse 18 anos de novo”.
Além de treinar ao lado de grandes nomes do MMA mundial, como Wanderlei Silva e Fabrício Werdum, o casca-grossa conta com o reforço de Gustavo Ximú na preparação. “Sem esquecer a galera da Gracie Barra, Márcio Feitosa, Carlos Gracie treinando junto... O exército da Gracie Barra está todo aqui... Tem o exército da trocação, o exército do chão, o exército do Wrestling (risos)... Estamos nos preparando, faremos o que tivermos que fazer para ganhar”, finalizou.
