Maurício Shogun is the new UFC champion. After a sensation first fight, which last 25 minutes, he came back determined to end the combat quickly, without leaving it for the judges round card. And he did it.

On the first round with the champion at that time, Lyoto Machida, Shogun went for it and, right after knocking him down, felt mounted on Lyoto and hit him a lot on the ground and pound game, until the referee’s intermission. A great victory of Shogun. “Only God knows what I’ve been through… Lyoto is a great athlete, I trained a lot for this. I’ve worked hard on my hands and was lucky I got to hit him”, celebrates Shogun, dedicating the title for his mother.

KOSCHECK WINS AND WILL FACE ST. PIERRE

The tension was everywhere in the fight between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley before the fight, and it wasn’t any different when they got into the octagon. Even knowing the dangers of Daley left hand punches offered, Koscheck guaranteed he would be “pretentious” enough to trade blows with him during the debate, but as a victory would give the winner a vacancy on the belt dispute, he went there with the cleverest strategy.

Dominating the fight with his efficient Wrestling, Josh got the fair decision of the judges and will confront Georges St. Pierre. But the fight didn’t finish at the end. After the last belt rang, Daley went after Koscheck and punched him on the face, being quickly stopped by the referee. If UFC is reasonable, the English is quoted to lose his job.

KIMBO SLICE LOSES FOR THE FIRST TIME ON UFC

One of UFC’s stars, more for his popularity than his talent, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Fergunson suffered his official lost on Ultimate. Facing the heavy weight Matt Mitrione, who participated of the last season of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter, Kimbo started well on the trade of blows, but got tired already in the end of the first round and became an easy prey for Miltrione on the second round, who mounted and punished him on the ground and pound until the referee’s intermission.

BELCHER SUBMITS COTE

As he entered the arena, the American Alan Belcher felt in his own skin the crowd in favor of the Canadian Patrick Cole, his opponent on the event. But he was not intimidated and dominated the local athlete since the beginning of the fight, but had a hard time on getting himself rid of a kimura on the first round. With a body slam, Belcher tool Cote to the ground on the second round and got a submission by a rear naked choke and won the fight. After the fight, Belcher asked for a chance against Anderson Silva, division’s champion.

ACTION ON THE PRELIMINARS FIGHTS

On the first fight of the night, Jason MacDonald ended up beat by John Salter. With almost three minutes of battle, the tough guy suffered a great fracture on his leg and had no conditions to keep fighting, giving his opponent the victory. On the following duel, Mike Guyman dominated Yoshiyuki Yoshida and had his first victory on UFC by the unanimous judges round card decision.

And it was by points too that Joey Beltran, the tormentor of Roller Gracie on his debut, won for the second time on UFC. The opponent was Tim Hague, who was beat during the 15 minutes of fight. On the next fight, the unbeaten Johny Hendricks started worst against the submitter TJ Grant, but started to play the right game on the second round, and won by the judges round card.

Knows as the “Irish grenade”, Marcus Davis showed why he is called by this name against Jonathan Guolet. After a busy first round, the tough Irish fighter knockout the Canadian by a left hand crossed punch, at 1min23s of the second round. On the last preliminary fight, Jow Doerksen submitted Tom Maylor by a rear naked choke on the second round.

Shogun nocauteia Lyoto e é o novo campeão

Maurício Shogun é o novo campeão do UFC. Após uma primeira luta sensacional, que durou 25 minutos, o curitibano voltou determinado a encerrar o combate rapidamente, sem deixar a decisão nas mãos dos juízes. E ele cumpriu.

No primeiro round contra o então campeão Lyoto Machida, Shogun partiu para cima e, logo após conseguir um knockdown, já caiu montado sobre Lyoto e acertou mais golpes no ground and pound, até a interrupção do árbitro. Grande vitória do curitibano. “Só Deus sabe o que eu passei... O Lyoto é um grande atleta, treinei muito para isso. Trabalhei minha mão, consegui acertar e fui feliz", comemora Shogun, dedicando o título à mãe.

KOSCHECK VENCE E ENFRENTA ST. PIERRE

O clima estava quente entre Josh Koscheck e Paul Daley antes da luta, e não foi diferente quando os dois entraram no octagon. Mesmo sabendo do perigo que a canhota de Daley oferecia, Koscheck garantiu que seria “pretensioso” o bastante para trocar em ele no combate, mas como a vitória valeria uma disputa de cinturão, ele fez a estratégia mais inteligente.

Dominando a luta com seu eficiente Wrestling, Josh ficou com a justa vitória na decisão dos juízes e enfrentará Georges St. Pierre. Mas a luta não acabou aí. Após o último soar do gongo, Daley partiu para cima de Koscheck e o socou no rosto, sendo rapidamente seguro pelo árbitro. Se o UFC for coerente, o inglês tem tudo para perder seu emprego.

KIMBO SLICE PERDE A PRIMEIRA NO UFC

Uma das estrelas do UFC, mais pela popularidade do que pelo talento, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Fergunson sofreu sua primeira derrota oficial no Ultimate. Diante do peso pesado Matt Mitrione, que participou da última temporada do reality show The Ultimate Fighter, Kimbo começou bem na trocação, mas ficou sem gás logo no final do primeiro round e foi presa fácil para Mitrione no segundo assalto, que montou e castigou no ground and pound até a interrupção do árbitro.

BELCHER FINALIZA COTE

Assim que entrou na arena, o americano Alan Belcher sentiu na pele a torcida a favor do canadense Patrick Cote, seu oponente na noite. Porém, ele não se intimidou e dominou o atleta local desde o início da luta, mas precisou suar para escapar de uma kimura no round inicial. Com um bate estaca, Belcher levou Cote ao chão no segundo round e conseguiu um belo mata-leão, ficando com a vitória. Após a luta, Belcher pediu uma chance contra Anderson Silva, campeão da categoria.

AÇÃO NAS LUTAS PRELIMINARES

Na primeira luta da noite, Jason MacDonald não se deu bem contra John Salter. Com quase três minutos de peleja, o casca-grossa sofreu uma grave fratura na perna e não teve como prosseguir na luta, dando a vitória ao oponente. No duelo a seguir, Mike Guyman dominou Yoshiyuki Yoshida e conquistou sua primeira vitória no UFC na decisão unânime dos juízes.

E foi por pontos que Joey Beltran, algoz de Rolles Gracie em sua estreia, venceu a segunda no UFC. O adversário era Tim Hague, que foi superado nos 15 minutos de luta. Na luta seguinte, o invicto Johny Hendricks começou pior contra o finalizador TJ Grant, mas começou a tomar conta da luta a partir do segundo assalto e levou a vitória na decisão dos jurados.

Conhecido como a “granada irlandesa”, Marcus Davis fez jus ao apelido contra Jonathan Guolet. Após um primeiro round movimentado, o casca-grossa da Irlanda nocauteou o canadense com um belo cruzado de esquerda, a 1min23s de luta no segundo assalto. Na última luta preliminar, Joe Doerksen finalizou Tom Lawlor com um mata-leão no segundo round.
