On the next Saturday, Maurício Shogun will have his second chance to conquer UFC’s belt, and he does not want to miss it. In an interview given to TATAME in April,. He promised to keep his aggressive style, which hallowed him on Pride, in order to bring home the so desired UFC’s belt.
“I intend to set a strategy and follow it, but my style is the same. I fight for 10 years and I’m not changing now. I’m fighting Lyoto and I’ll do what has to be done to win”, said the tough guy, analyzing Machida’s game. “The counterattack is part of his style, is his strong point, he works very well the Diai, which is the encountering blow. But, to be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to. I trained all possible situations I can get into so that I won’t be caught by surprise during the fight and make the best possible combat. Because I don’t know his strategy, I’ll have to adapt myself to all situations”, said.
In a chat with TATAME, Glaube Feitosa, Shogun’s trainer partner, said that Maurício’s kicks may appear again on the revenge. “As Lyoto must counterattack, Shogun must be aware of that and prepared to develop. He must take the counterattacks knowing it’ll happen otherwise we’ll be caught by surprise. The ideia is Shogun to through his blows upon Lyoto’s counterattacks. Shogun has to be the last to punch, a hard thing when we think about Lyoto, but that’s the goal”, said Glaube.
Maurício explains part of his strategy on Saturday’s fight. “Maybe go a little bit forward, the kicking part I’m sure he’ll try to block… He must be working on that defenses, he must have a Muay Thai sparring to train with him and, for sure, he’ll come more protected. For sure I’ll try to keep the boxing techniques as an option to use”, told Maurício.

Shogun: “Luto há 10 anos e não vou mudar”

No próximo sábado, Maurício Shogun terá a segunda chance de conquistar o cinturão do UFC, mas não quer deixar passar desta vez. Em entrevista à Revista TATAME de abril, o curitibano prometeu manter o estilo agressivo que o consagrou no Pride para levar para casa o cobiçado cinturão do Ultimate.
“Pretendo montar uma estratégia e segui-la, mas o meu estilo é o mesmo. Eu luto há 10 anos de um jeito e não vou mudar agora. Vou lutar com o Lyoto e fazer o que tem que ser feito para vencer”, afirmou o casca-grossa, analisando o jogo de Machida. “O contra golpe é o estilo dele, é o ponto forte, ele trabalha muito bem o Diai, que é o golpe de encontro. Mas, na verdade, eu não sei como ele vai vir. Treinei todas as situações possíveis para não ser surpreendido na luta e fazer o melhor combate possível. Como não sei a estratégia dele, vou ter que me adaptar a todas as situações”, disse.
Em conversa com a TATAME, Glaube Feitosa, companheiro de treinos de Shogun, afirmou que os chutes do curitibano podem voltar na revanche. “Como o Lyoto deve contra golpear, o Shogun deve estar ciente disso e preparado para devolver. Ele tem que tomar o contragolpe sabendo que vai acontecer para não ser pego de surpresa. A idéia é o Shogun jogar os golpes em cima dos contra golpes do Lyoto. O Shogun tem que ser o último a bater, algo difícil em se tratando de Lyoto, mas o objetivo é esse”, afirmou Glaube.
E Maurício explica parte de sua estratégia para a luta de sábado. “Acho que ir um pouco mais para cima, a parte dos chutes com certeza ele vai procurar bloquear... Já deve estar trabalhando essas defesas, deve ter um sparring de Muay Thai para treinar e com certeza ele vai vir mais protegido. Com certeza a parte de Boxe vai ser mais uma opção que pretendo usar”, contou Maurício.
