After submitting Dean Lister in 2009, Thales Leites will return to MFC’s octagon tomorrow (7). Facing Jesse Taylor, Nova União’s black belt wants a victory upon the cold Canadian. “The expectations are high, I’m feeling good. People are talking about it a lot, it’s a promise of a busy fight”, said the tough guy. Check below a quick chat with Thales, who talked to TATAME directly from Canada.
What are your expectations for the fight?
The expectations are high, I’m feeling good. I’ve trained a lot with heavier people such as Pedro Rizzo, Glover Teixera, people from Delfim… I’ll feel stronger during the fight. Now I have to focus on my weight and fight.
He won most of his fights on the ground… Do you think he will avoid taking you to the ground, since it is your specialty too?
To be honest, I don’t know... I think he may try to surprise me fighting standing, but I’m coming for the exchange, I’ll fight wherever it takes me to. I believe he’s coming to take me down and do the ground and pound, work from the top.
You were quoted to fight for the belt on this fight, but it did not happened. What are your expectations?
My contract is of two fights, after that I don’t know, let’s wait. It may be so, it may be not… Last time they talked about me fighting for the belt, and I don’t know what happened and they’ve changed their minds, but what I want id to fight. I’m glad to show my work.
How are things in Canada?
People are talking about it a lot. Jesse always searches for the fight, winning or losing, he goes for it… It is a good thing not only for me, but for the show as well, it’s a promise of a busy fight. He comes forward and doesn’t stop, but I’m prepared for anything.
Do you intend to stay in Canada and watch Lyoto and Shogun’s fight?
I can’t do that, I’ll have to go back to Brazil soon. I’ll meet my family, rest for a while… It’s not close from where I am, I’d have to take a plane. Their fight is in Montreal and I’m in Edmonton… In fact, nothing is close here, it’s too cold, zero degrees (laughs).

Após finalizar Dean Lister em 2009, Thales Leites voltará ao octagon do MFC amanhã (7). Diante de Jesse Taylor, o faixa-preta da Nova União quer anotar mais uma vitória no frio canadense. “A expectativa está boa, estou me sentindo bem. A luta está sendo bem falada, é promessa de luta bem movimentada”, afirmou o casca-grossa. Confira abaixo um rápido bate-papo com Thales, que conversou com a TATAME direto do Canadá.
Qual a expectativa para a luta?
A expectativa está boa, estou me sentindo bem. Treinei bastante com a galera mais pesada, Pedro Rizzo, Glover Teixeira, a galera da Delfim... Vou me sentir mais forte durante a luta. Agora é bater o peso e lutar.
Ele venceu a maioria de suas lutas no chão... Você acha que ele vai evitar te levar para o chão, uma vez que essa também é a sua especialidade?
Vou te falar a verdade, não sei... Acredito que ele pode querer surpreender e lutar em pé, mas estou vindo para fazer trocação, vou lutar onde a luta for. Acredito que ele venha para me derrubar e fazer ground and pound, trabalhar por cima.
Você estava cotado para disputar o cinturão já nessa luta, mas não aconteceu. Qual a sua expectativa?
Meu contrato é de duas lutas, depois não sei o que vai ser, vamos aguardar. Pode ser que sim, pode ser que não... Da outra vez falaram depois da luta que eu ia disputar o cinturão, mas não sei o que aconteceu e não rolou, mas, enfim, o que eu quero é lutar. Estou feliz de mostrar o meu trabalho.
Como está o clima aí no Canadá?
A luta está sendo bem falada. O Jesse sempre busca a luta, ganhando ou perdendo, vai pra dentro... Isso é bom não só para mim, mas pro show também, é promessa de luta movimentada. Ele vem direto pra cima e não para, mas estou preparado para qualquer situação.
Você vai aproveitar que está no Canadá para acompanhar a luta do Lyoto contra o Shogun?
Não vai dar, vou ter que voltar logo para o Brasil. Vou encontrar a minha família, dar uma descansada... Não é perto de onde eu estou, tem que pegar um avião. A luta deles é em Montreal, eu estou em Edmonton... Na verdade, aqui não é perto de nada, é frio pra cacete, zero grau (risos).
