“You can expect a knock out or a submission from me on May 15”. The promise comes from Antônio Big Foot, American Top Team’s heavyweight who will face the Belarus Andre Arlovski on Strikeforce, on May 15. The Brazilian considers himself a lot more mature for his fight against the UFC’s former champion, even more after his defeat for the compratiot Fabrício Werdum.
“(My last fight) was a big lesson for me (a loss to Werdum on the Fedor-Rogers undercard). I had the opportunity but I could not do it. When I got Werdum in trouble instead of going down with him and keeping with ground and pound when he tried to grab my leg I stepped back and let him get back up. But that’s all in the past now... If Arlovski blinks he’ll get knocked out”, garantees Big Foot, who fractured his hand on that same second round on his fight against Werdum, last November.
Ready for Arlovski’s hard blows, the Brazilian reveals the secret for his adaptation to his opponent’s speed. “I train with guys like Jorge Santiago who are lighter and fast so I am very comfortable with his speed. I’m hoping that the fight stays standing up”, reveals the Jiu-Jitsu’s black belt, who also can beat his opponent on the ground. “I think I’m very comfortable anywhere the fight goes”, concluded Big Foot.

“Você pode esperar um nocaute ou finalização no dia 15 de maio”. A promessa é de Antônio Pezão, peso pesado da American Top Team que encara o bielorrusso Andrei Arlovski no Strikeforce, dia 15 de maio. O brasileiro se considera mais maduro para a luta contra o ex-campeão do UFC, ainda mais depois da derrota para o compatriota Fabrício Werdum.
“Minha última luta foi uma grande lição para mim. Eu tive a oportunidade, mas não consegui (finalizar a luta). Eu queria dar um show. Quando coloquei o Werdum em perigo, ao invés de ir para o chão e bater no ground and pound, andei para trás e o deixei levantar. Não vou deixar isso acontecer de novo... Se o Arlovski piscar, ele será nocauteado”, garante Pezão, que fraturou a mão ainda no segundo round da luta contra Werdum, em novembro do ano passado.
Pronto para a trocação afiada de Arlovski, o brazuca revela o segredo para a adaptação à velocidade do oponente. “Treino com caras como Jorge Santiago, que são leves e rápidos, então estou muito confortável com a velocidade. Espero que essa luta permaneça em pé”, revela o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu, que também pode definir no chão. “Estarei muito confortável aonde quer que a luta vá”, finalizou Pezão.
