When he won the World title on 2009, Michael Langhi proved he was noto n the light weight division just to play. But the absence of the three-time champion Celsinho Venícius on the dispute made many people wonder: would Langhi be the World’s champion if Celsinho was on the dispute?
The perfect answer only would come if the two of them confronted each other on a finale, and that was exactly what happened. Yesterday afternoon, in Long Beach, Celsinho and Langhi were face to face on the grand finale of the light weight division, and who won was Alliance’s athlete. “It was a very tight fight because we confronted each other before, he beat me… Sometimes we want to let it be and go for it, but when you’re facing a hard opponent, you have to think of a strategy”, explains Michael, who won on the judge’s decision, after the draw. “I had a strategy and it worked, thank God, but Celsinho is to be congratulated, he is an excellent athlete and doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody. I can only thank for having done this finale against him”, compliments.
FROM THE PODIUM TO THE HOSPITAL
Two-time world champion on the light weight division, does Langhi only think about celebrating? Not at all, the black belt’s next step is surgery. “It was the hardest fight I’ve ever done, he is three-time world champion, but I’m training hard. I have an injured shoulder and I’ll have a surgery next week”, reveals Langhi, who harmed even more his shoulder on Pan Am. “The doctor told me that the recovery lasts two or four months and when I’m fine I’ll fight again… I love this adrenalin I feel when I compete, it’s my life, and maybe I can compete on the World without kimono on the end of the year”, celebrates Langhi, sending his message: “I want to thank all my training partners and my girlfriend, who believed in me”.

Langhi: “Foi a luta mais difícil que já fiz”

Quando ganhou o título mundial em 2009, Michael Langhi mostrou a todos que não estava para brincadeira no peso leve. Porém, a ausência do tricampeão Celsinho Venícius na disputa deixou em muitos a questão: será que Langhi conquistaria um Mundial com Celsinho no páreo? A resposta perfeita só viria numa final entre eles, e foi o que aconteceu.
Na final de semana, em Long Beach, Celsinho e Langhi ficaram frente a frente na grande final do peso leve, e quem se deu melhor foi o atleta da Alliance. “Foi uma luta muito disputada pelo fato de eu já ter lutado com o Celsinho, ele já me ganhou... A gente às vezes quer soltar o jogo e ir para dentro, mas quando o adversário é muito duro temos que usar uma estratégia”, explica Michael, que venceu na decisão dos juízes, após o empate. “Fiz uma estratégia que deu certo graças a Deus, mas o Celsinho está de parabéns, é um excelente atleta e não tem que provar nada para ninguém. Só tenho a agradecer e fico muito feliz por ter feito essa final contra ele”, elogia.
DÓ PÓDIO PARA O ESTALEIRO
Bicampeão mundial entre os leves, Langhi só quer saber de festa? Que nada, o próximo passo do faixa-preta é a mesa de cirurgia. “Foi a luta mais difícil que eu já fiz, ele é tricampeão mundial, mas eu estou trabalhando duro. Estou com uma lesão no ombro e vou operar na semana que vem”, revela Langhi, que complicou sua lesão durante o Pan-Americano. “O médico me disse que a recuperação é de dois a três meses, e assim que eu tiver recuperado vou lutar de novo... Adoro a adrenalina de competir, é minha vida, e quem sabe eu volte a competir no Mundial sem quimono no final do ano”, comemora Langhi, mandando o seu recado: “quero agradecer aos meus companheiros de equipe e à minha namorada, que acreditou em mim”.
