Right after she won World 2009, Letícia Ribeiro said her retirement could be close. But just as the keys of this year World were disclosed, there was the name of the four-time champion of the light feather division. “I always say I’ll stop, but then I start training and I feel like competing again”, jokes the leader of the female squad of Gracie Humaitá, who won her fifth world title last weekend.
“Everytime I feel I have conditions to compete, I’ll do so… What I mostly love doing in my life is Jiu-Jitsu, so let’s see what comes next”, celebrates Letícia, who won the golden medal after two fights. “Yesterday I had one fight, because the girld I would confront on the semifinal gave up on doing that fight, so I just fought the finale”, reminds the black belt, who beat Sofia Amarante by 6x0. “I fought against her before, so it felt like a rematch. We fought twice without kimono, I won one and she won the on the other, and today (Sunday), with kimono, we tiebreaker (laughs), celebrates the champion.

Assim que ganhou o Mundial em 2009, Letícia Ribeiro deixou no ar que a aposentadoria estaria próxima. Porém, assim que foram divulgadas as chaves do Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu deste ano, lá estava o nome da tetracampeã no peso pluma. “Eu sempre falo que eu vou parar, mas aí eu começo a treinar e me dá vontade de competir”, brinca a líder da tropa feminina da Gracie Humaitá, que faturou o pentacampeonato mundial no último final de semana.
“Sempre que eu me sentir em condições de competir, eu vou competir... A coisa que eu mais amo fazer na vida é o Jiu-Jitsu, e vamos para a próxima agora”, comemora Letícia, que ficou com o ouro ao vencer duas lutas. “Ontem eu só tive uma luta, já que a semifinal a garota desistiu de lutar, então fui direto para a final”, relembra a faixa-preta, que bateu Sofia Amarante por 6x0 na final. “Eu já tinha lutado com ela, foi como uma revanche. A gente tinha lutado duas vezes sem quimono, eu ganhei uma e ela ganhou a outra, e hoje (domingo), de quimono, foi o desempate (risos)”, festeja a campeã.
