Tavares: “I’ve fought Brazilians before”

Recovered from a shoulder injury, Thiago Tavares was called in to come back to UFC’s octagon against another Brazilian, Willamy Chiquerim, and he is excited for the duel. “I’m very excited, I believe it’ll be a great fight and it will be decided on the small details”, said the fighter to TATAME, hoping for a love of punch’s trade.  “He comes from a great team, Nova União, which is a Jiu-Jitsu team, but I believe the fight will be decided while we are standing… He has a better standing game than I do. Since we both come from Jiu-Jitsu, let’s see who is more prepared for a standing fight”, bets.

Experienced on the American’s octagon, it will be the first time that Thiago will confront another Brazilian on UFC, but he does not mind. “I’ve fought against Brazilians before, so, for me, it doesn’t make any difference. The Americans always fight against each other, so I don’t mind. Each man fights for himself and God fights for all of us, right?” jokes Tavares. “Of course there’s a Brazilian team in each division, and I was glad when I hear he would join UFC so he could help me to beat the Americans, but then I heard he would confront me… That’s life and I don’t see a problem fighting against him because of his nationality. I believe that, independent of who wins, Brazil will be well represented”.

As for the shoulder injury, which took him away from UFC 114 right before the event, the lightweight guarantees he is recovered. “I’m training 100% and I’ll be 100% ready for the fight. I’m doing a good training, Maldonado has been helping me with my boxing, I’m working a lot on the standing game, and there’s a Puerto Rican coming to help me on that part too, he’ll do sparring with me, he’s a professional boxer. I’m very excited, working on my deficiencies and I believe it’ll be a great fight”, says Thiago, excited on the chat with TATAME.

Thiago: “Já lutei contra brasileiros antes”

Recuperado de lesão no ombro, Thiago Tavares está escalado para voltar ao octagon do UFC contra o compatriota Willamy Chiquerim, e está animado para o duelo. “Estou bastante empolgado, acho que vai ser uma luta boa, que vai ser decidida nos mínimos detalhes”, disse o lutador à TATAME, esperando por uma grande batalha na trocação. “Ele vem de uma boa equipe, a Nova União, que é uma grande equipe de Jiu-Jitsu, mas acho que a luta vai ser decidida em pé mesmo... E ele tem um jogo em pé melhor que o meu. Já que os dois são do Jiu-Jitsu, vamos ver quem está mais bem preparado para lutar em pé”, aposta.

Experiente no octagon americano, será a primeira vez que Thiago enfrentará um compatriota no UFC, mas ele não se importa. “Já lutei contra brasileiros antes, então, pra mim, não faz a menor diferença. Os americanos vivem lutando entre si, então não faz diferença. É cada um por si e Deus por todos, né?”, brinca Thiaguinho. “Óbvio que existe uma seleção brasileira em cada categoria, tanto que fiquei feliz quando soube que ele ia entrar pro UFC. Pensei que ele seria mais um brasileiro para, junto comigo, enfrentar os americanos, mas depois eu fiquei sabendo que ele ia lutar comigo, é assim... A vida é assim mesmo e eu não vejo nenhum problema por causa da nacionalidade dele. Acho que, independente de quem vencer, o Brasil estará bem representado”.

Quando à lesão no ombro, que o tirou do UFC 114 às vésperas da luta, o peso leve garante estar recuperado. “Estou treinando 100% e vou estar 100% para a luta. Estou treinando bem, o Maldonado está cuidando do meu Boxe, estou trabalhando bastante na parte em pé, está vindo mais um porto-riquenho me ajudar na parte em pé também, vai fazer sparring comigo, um profissional do Boxe. Estou bem empolgado, trabalhando nas minhas deficiências e acho que vai ser uma luta muito boa”, se anima Thiago, em conversa com a TATAME.
