The bests of the world in action in August

August will be a promising month for MMA fans. On the 31 days, the sport will see the three best fighters of their divisions in action, but there is too much to come. Check below the main events of August and do not miss any detail of the exclusive coverage of the events by TATAME with a lot of controversy and action during the fighting show.

UFC with belts, controversies and rematches

If you are missing UFC’s event, which had only one edition on July, you can stay cool, because the show leaded my Dana White will have three editions in August. The first one, UFC on Versus 2, will have a Brazilian debut on the octagon. Unbeaten on national rings, Charles Oliveira will have his international debut in California against Darren Elkins. Meanwhile, Thiago Tavares waits for a new opponent, since Willamy Freire hurt his knee and won’t be able to make his UFC debut. The main event of the evening will count with a young promise, Jon Jones, getting into action against a veteran, Vladmir Matyshenko.

Six days later (7), the number one of the middleweight division will risk his reign for the seventh time. In the search of beating old marks, Anderson Silva can win for the twelfth time in a roll on his bout with the windbag Chael Sonnen, who shot dozens of verbal bullets against the Brazilian and his friends. On UFC 117’s card, Brazil will also have the join of Thiago Alves, Rafael dos Anjos, Junior dos Santos, Thiago Silva and Ricardo Almeida, all of them confronting American fighters.

On the last weekend of August (28), it will be the time for the best lightweight athletes to fight for the UFC belt. On the main event, the current champion Frankie Edgar will face the Hawaiian BJ Penn, who ruled the division alone for many years. But that is not the only great thing about UFC 118. Among the Brazilians, Rousimar Toquinho promises to hit Nate Marquardt’s feet, while Amilcar Alvas has his debut on the American octagon against Mike Pierce. Being a veteran on the event, Randy Couture will welcome the former boxer James Toney on his first MMA bout.

Brazilians fight for the top of Strikeforce

Fabrício Werdum submitted Fedor Emelianenko in only 69 seconds. The fight was not for the title, but the Brazilian’s win put him on a favorable spot on the organization. Meanwhile, on the two below divisions, the Brazilian duo will have the chance to stand on the top of their divisions. Among the light heavyweights, Rafael Feijão faces the champion King Mo Lawal for the title, and Ronaldo Jacaré will have to duel with Tim Kennedy for the vacant belt of the middleweight division. The event, scheduled for the 21th, will also have Jorge Gurgel confronting KJ Noons and the black belt André Galvão, but he does not have an opponent set yet. Strikeforce also plans an event for the 13th, with only one bout confirmed (Joe Riggs VS. Louis Taylor).

Bantamweight title will be disputed on WEC 50 

The 50th edition of WEC will heat Las Vegas on the 18th, and the bantamweight belt will be disputed. Owning the title, Dominick Cruz faces Joseph Benavidez, rematch their duel which ended with Cruz’s win on WEC 42. The loss was the first and only one on Joseph’s career. The light weights show will also have the participation of the black belt Frédson Paixão, having a bout with Bryan Caraway, among the preliminary fights.

Bellator is back with great attractions

One of the events which most grow on the United States is Bellator FC, and it will have two editions to come next month and they chose some of their great names to join the cards. The most important edition will happen on August 21, and it will mark the comeback of the middleweight champion Hector Lombard, who ran over his lasts opponents, facing Herbert Goodman. The fight will not be for the title. Considered one of the best female fighters in all times, the Japanese Megumi Fujii wants to write her 21st win on her unbeaten record against Angela Magana, and the show will also have another female bout, which will be between Jessica Aguilar and Lynn Alvarez.

UFC com cinturões, polêmicas e revanches

Se você ficou carente de eventos do UFC, que realizou apenas uma edição em julho, pode ficar tranquilo, o show comandado por Dana White terá três edições em agosto. A primeira delas, o UFC on Versus 2, terá a estreia de dois brasileiros no octagon. Invicto nos ringues nacionais, Charles do Bronx’s debuta na Califórnia contra Darren Elkins. Enquanto isso, o estreante Willamy Chiquerim, ex-campeão do Shooto, encara o compatriota Thiago Tavares. A luta principal terá a jovem promessa Jon Jones em ação contra o veterano Vladimir Matyushenko.

Seis dias depois (7), o número um dos pesos médios coloca o trono em jogo pela sétima vez. Em busca de mais um recorde no UFC, Anderson Silva pode conquistar a 12ª vitória consecutiva contra o falastrão Chael Sonnen, que disparou a “metralhadora verbal” contra o brasileiro e seus amigos. No card do UFC 117, o Brasil ainda terá a participação de Thiago Pitbull, Rafael dos Anjos, Junior Cigano, Thiago Silva e Ricardo Cachorrão, todos enfrentando atletas norte-americanos.

Brasileiros lutam pelo topo do Strikeforce

Fabrício Werdum finalizou Fedor Emelianenko em apenas 69 segundos. A luta não valeu cinturão, é verdade, mas a vitória do brasileiro o deixou numa posição pra lá de confortável dentro da organização. Enquanto isso, nas duas categorias de baixo, uma dupla tupiniquim terá a chance de ficar no topo do evento. Entre os meio-pesados, Rafael Feijão encara o campeão King Mo Lawal pelo título, enquanto Ronaldo Jacaré duela com Tim Kennedy pelo cinturão vago dos pesos médios. O evento, programado para o dia 21, ainda terá a participação de Jorge Gurgel, contra KJ Noons, e do faixa-preta André Galvão, ainda sem adversário definido. O Strikeforce ainda planeja um evento para o dia 13, com apenas uma luta confirmada (Joe Riggs x Louis Taylor).

Topo dos plumas em disputa no WEC 50

A 50ª edição do WEC agitará Las Vegas no dia 18, e o cinturão dos pesos plumas estará em jogo. Dono do título, Dominick Cruz encara Joseph Benavidez, reeditando o duelo que terminou com vitória de Cruz no WEC 42. A derrota, aliás, foi a única sofrida por Joseph em toda sua carreira. O show de levinhos ainda terá a participação do faixa-preta Frédson Paixão, duelando contra Bryan Caraway entre as preliminares.

Bellator volta com suas principais atrações

Um dos eventos que mais cresce nos Estados Unidos, o Bellator FC terá duas edições no próximo mês, e convocou alguns de seus maiores nomes para os cards. O mais recheado será o do dia 21, que terá a volta do campeão peso médio Hector Lombard, que atropelou seus últimos adversários, encarando Herbert Goodman. A luta, porém, não será válida pelo título. Considerada uma das maiores lutadoras de todos os tempos, a japonesa Megumi Fujii busca a 21ª vitória do cartel invicto contra Angela Magana, e o show ainda terá outra luta feminina com Jessica Aguilar x Lynn Alvarez.
