Finale of the soccer championship of São Paulo, marathon… The weekend in São Paulo was packed with sporting attractions, and Jiu-Jitsu was not out of this party. SP Cup, a tournament organized by World League Pro Jiu-Jitsu, came with an interesting proposal to stamp the passport of 30 champions to CBJJ World, and the disputes started on Saturday.

Cavaca is the name of the competition

On Sunday, people were focused on the black belt’s absolute. Champion on weight by beating Luis Big Mac, Rodrigo Cavaca waited from a cabin the finale, privilege guaranteed with his title on the 2009’s edition of SP Cup. The most valued division of the event had the domain of Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu’s team. With four athletes in action seeking for the gold, the team got to the quarterfinals with a soft art’s show.

While Marco Giudice and Thiago Alves did pretty well on one side, Murilo Santava had some troubles in reaching them. Alliance’s athlete and champion on his weight division, Leonardo Nogueira was guaranteed for the next round with a 2x0 scoreboard, but Murilo excited the crowd with his pass of guard with 20 seconds for the end of the fight, guaranteeing the Barbosa’s team with three of the four semifinal’s vacancies.

Barbosinha met the athletes and discussed a few minutes in order to decide who would confront Cavaca on the absolute’s finale, and Fernando Lopes, organizer of the tournament, made the announcement through the microphone: Thiago Alves. The fans were divided in two corners and shook the gym for the biggest fight of the event. However, the most expected fight was one of the quicker. To be precisely: 40 seconds.

Cavaca pulled Thiago’s guard and surprised the opponent with a triangle, but in was on the arm that he got the submission. “I’m thrilled, I trained hard for this. I lost with a similar blow on the European (for Guto Campos), but now I won”, celebrated the grand champion, who got two stamps for his World’s passport. But he won’t use it. “I’ve already bought mine, so one will be used by my brother and the other one I’ll give to a pupil of mine”, revealed.

Mário Reis shines on máster

Used to fight in the adult, the black belt Mário Reis, was a master on this SP Cup’s edition, and won the light weight absolute’s title. “I’m already an old guy of 30 years-old, but always fight in the adult. I decided to fight in the master so I could preserve myself”, said Mário, who will figh the World’s adult, and has his eyes on Cobrinha and Rafael Mendes. On the heavy absolute, Adriano Silva had no difficulties. After passing the first fights without fighting, the black belt submitted the two following fights and did it again on the finale, getting Rafael Coelho submitted with a rear naked choke.

Alliance domains the female absolute

Gabi Garcia and Luanna Alzuguir, who dominated the last competitions which they joined, made another show for the audience. Owners of SP Cup’s belts, titles achieved on 2009, the black belts waited calmly for their opponents, who did two fights each before getting to the finale.

Being the first to go into action, Gabi was quick and submitted Talita Treta with a key-lock. “She’s taking the silver medal home”, jokes the brown belt. On the lower absolute division, Luanna confronted Vanessa Oliveira and, while the scoreboard had no points scored yet, went for it, grabbed her back and submitted with a choke.

The light absolute was exciting among the girls, and it was the only SP Cup’s belt which has exchanged its owner. Division champion, Michelle Nicolini had a rematch against Claudinha Gadelha on the semifinal. If Michelle had won on the score cards decision on Saturday, things didn’t go the same way on Sunday, when the fight finished earlier. While she tried to hit the foot, Claudinha made a mistake and crossed her legs upon her opponent’s knee, being disqualified.

Guaranteed on the key’s finale, Michele Nicolini confronted another Michelle, Tavares. The black belt didn’t give her opponent a chance and, while Nicolini attacked her feet, she did exactly the same and was perfect, getting a vacancy in the dispute for the belt. Against Cristina Zakka, 2009’s champion, Michelle made it look simple and got quickly in her back, making a rear naked choke and winning the belt.

Final do campeonato paulista de futebol, maratona... O final de semana em São Paulo foi recheada de atrações esportivas, e o Jiu-Jitsu não ficou de fora desta festa. A SP Cup, torneio organizado pela World League Pro Jiu-Jitsu, chegou com a interessante proposta de carimbar o passaporte de 30 campeões para o Mundial da CBJJ, e as disputas começaram ontem (relembre aqui). Cavaca é o grande nome da competição

No domingo, as atrações ficaram por conta do absoluto da faixa-preta. Campeão no peso ao bater Luis Big Mac, Rodrigo Cavaca esperou de camarote na final, privilégio garantido com o título absoluto da edição 2009 da SP Cup. E a categoria mais valorizada do torneio teve domínio da equipe Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu. Com quatro atletas em ação pelo ouro, o time chegou às quartas de final com um show de arte suave.

Enquanto Marco Giudice e Thiago Alves davam conta do recado de um lado, Murilo Santava teve trabalho para avançar. Atleta da Alliance e campeão do seu peso no sábado, Leonardo Nogueira estava se garantindo na próxima fase com 2x0 no placar, mas Murilo levantou a torcida com uma passagem de guarda a 20 segundos do fim, garantindo a equipe Barbosa em três das quatro vagas na semifinal.

Barbosinha se reuniu com os atletas durante alguns minutos para decidir quem enfrentaria Cavaca na final do absoluto, e Fernando Lopes, organizador do torneio, fez o anúncio pelo microfone: Thiago Alves. As torcidas se formaram e o ginásio tremeu para a grande luta do evento. Porém, a luta mais aguardada foi uma das mais rápidas. Para ser mais exato: 40 segundos.

Cavaca puxou Thiago para a guarda e surpreendeu o oponente com um triângulo, mas foi no braço que conseguiu a finalização. “Estou muito feliz, treinei muito para isso. Eu perdi justamente assim no Europeu (para Guto Campos, no absoluto), mas agora venci”, comemorou o grande campeão, que faturou dois pacotes para o Mundial. Mas ele não usará os prêmios. “Eu já comprei o meu, então um vai para o meu irmão e o outro vou dar para algum aluno”, revelou.

Mário Reis brilha no máster

Acostumado a lutar no adulto, o faixa-preta Mário Reis foi de máster na SP Cup, e conseguiu o título no absoluto leve. “Eu sou um ‘coroão’ de 30 anos, mas sempre luto de adulto. Resolvi lutar de máster para me preservar”, disse Mário, que vai de adulto no Mundial, de olho em Cobrinha e Rafael Mendes. No absoluto pesado, Adriano Silva sobrou. Após passar pelas duas primeiras fases sem lutar, o faixa-preta finalizou as duas lutas seguintes e repetiu o feito na final, pegando Rafael Coelho num mata-leão.

Alliance domina o absoluto feminino

Gabi Garcia e Luanna Alzuguir, que dominaram as últimas competições que participaram, deram mais um show. Donas dos cinturões da SP Cup, títulos conquistados em 2009, as faixas-pretas esperaram tranquilas pelas oponentes, que fizeram duas lutas cada antes da grande final.

Primeira a entrar em ação, Gabi foi rápida e finalizou Talita Treta com uma americana. “Tá virando a prata da casa”, se diverte a faixa-marrom. No absoluto abaixo, Luanna enfrentou Vanessa Oliveira e, enquanto o placar ainda marcava 0x0, partiu para cima, pegou as costas e finalizou com um estrangulamento.

O absoluto leve foi quente entre as meninas, e foi o único cinturão a mudar de mãos na SP Cup 2010. Campeã da categoria, Michelle Nicolini reencontrou Claudinha Gadelha na semi. Se Michelle havia vencido por pontos no sábado, a luta acabou antes no domingo. Enquanto tentava atacar o pé, Claudinha vacilou e cruzou as pernas sob o joelho da oponente, sendo desclassificada.

Garantida na final da chave, Michelle Nicolini enfrentou outra Michelle, a Tavares. A faixa-preta não deu bobeira e, enquanto Nicolini ataca seu pé, deu o troco na mesma moeda e foi certeira no bote, conseguindo a vaga na super luta pelo cinturão. Contra Cristina Zakka, campeã em 2009, Michelle deu show e chegou rapidamente às costas, encaixando o mata-leão e faturando o cinturão.
