Anderson Silva completely dominated the middleweight division of UFC, but the possibility for the athlete to fight for the light heavyweight title was remote, once his friend Lyoto Machida was the champion. With Maurício Shogun’s conquest, knocking out the karate fighter and becoming the new champion, Ultimate now considers a fight between the champions. And Shogun made it clear he would accept the duel.
“We’ve always had a good relationship, but we were never close. I’ve always admired Anderson on the gym, but we were never friends… If UFC wanted to, I’d confront Anderson”, said Maurício, who used to train with Anderson on Chute Boxe. “Anderson is a very good guy, had a good technique and conditioning, he’s one of the three best pound for pound, but I’m used to challenges. I’d be a tough fight, but I like tough challenges”, guarantees.

Anderson Silva dominou completamente o peso médio no UFC, mas a possibilidade de o atleta disputar o cinturão na categoria acima era remota, uma vez que seu amigo Lyoto Machida era o campeão. Com a conquista de Maurício Shogun, nocauteando o carateca e se tornando o novo campeão do peso, o Ultimate pode voltar a pensar numa luta entre campeões. E Shogun deixa claro que aceitaria o duelo.
“Sempre tivemos uma relação boa, mas nunca fomos muito próximos. Sempre admirei o Anderson dentro da academia, mas nunca tive uma relação de amizade com ele... Se o UFC quisesse, eu o enfrentaria”, afirmou Maurício, que treinava com Anderson na Chute Boxe. “O Anderson é um cara muito bom técnica e fisicamente, está entre os três maiores pound for pound, mas estou acostumado com grandes desafios. Seria uma luta difícil, mas eu gosto de desafios difíceis”.
