Ewerton Teixeira dreams with K-1 title

Fighting for the first time in 2010, Ewerton Teixeira was quick on the trigger and got the knockout on the first round on K-1’s ring, in Australia. After the win, the karate fighter turned his focus for his trainings with the wish of winning the GP of the event, which happens on October 2, in Seul, South Korea. On an interview via email given to TATAME directly from Japan, Ewerton commented his win over Alex Roberts, the learning he had after the defeat to Alistair Overeem in the end of 2009, the dream of becoming the champion of K-1 and the possibility of fighting MMA, pointing out Junior dos Santos as the man to beat Brock Lesnar. Check below the chat with the fighter.

How was your training for this fight with Alex?

The final preparation consisted basically on do the same things I’ve been doing for all fights I do, but this year, from March to May, I’ve spend some time training in Holland, on Mejiro Gym. It has been a great experience for me.

What did you think of the fight? Did you hoped for a quick win?

Well, of course I wanted to beat him as fast as I could, but that’s not up to nobody to predict. I’m glad with the result.

You didn’t fight since the end of 2009, when you were beaten by Overeem. Did you fear that this time off would risk it all?

Yeah. Seven month without fighting is a long time. Thanks God I trained a lot and everything came out just fine.

What did you learn from you defeat to Overeem?

It’s hard to win all the time. I always give my best on my trainings, but it’s different when the fight comes. The most difficult part for us, fighters, when we don’t achieve the result we wanted is to be massacred by the fans of the sport. No corrupt politician, rapper, drug dealer is so cursed as we are. I had to learn to deal with that.

Now you should come back to K-1’s GP, but you don’t have an opponent set yet. What is your expectation?

My priority is to find tall sparring. It’s hard to find tall training partners around here. I don’t know who my opponent will be, but I want to be prepared.

Is your dream to become a champion of K-1? What will it take you to conquest the title this year?

Yes, that’s my biggest dream. If that’s what God wants, with a lot of training and grip, I’ll make it come true.

Do you intend to come to Brazil before your next fight?

Yes. I’ll spend two weeks in Brazil and then I’ll come back to Japan to continue my training.

Besides karate and K-1, do you think about fighting MMA?

Currently I’m 100% focused on K-1. I’d rather think of my options later.

How do you see your division on MMA nowadays? How do you think you’d go if you joined UFC?

The current champion of UFC, Brock Lesnar, is a really strong guy, but I believe in Cigano’s potential a lot. I believe that he’ll have that belt soon. For me to debut on MMA I’d have to learn some ground game, but I don’t know anything about it now.

Lutando pela primeira vez em 2010, Ewerton Teixeira foi rápido no gatilho e conquistou o nocaute ainda no primeiro round no ringue do K-1, na Austrália. Após a vitória, o carateca volta seu foco para os treinos de olho no GP do K-1, que acontece no dia 2 de outubro em Seul, na Coréia do Sul. Em entrevista por e-mail à TATAME direto do Japão, Ewerton comentou a vitória sobre Alex Roberts, o aprendizado com a derrota para Alistair Overrem, no final de 2009, o sonho de se tornar campeão do K-1 e a possibilidade de lutar MMA, apontando Junior Cigano como o homem a bater Brock Lesnar. Confira abaixo o bate-papo com o casca-grossa.

Como foi o treino para a luta contra o Alex?

A preparação final foi basicamente a mesma que eu vinha fazendo para as outras lutas, mas este ano, de março a maio, passei um período treinando na Holanda, na Mejiro Gym. Isso foi uma boa experiência para mim.

O que você achou da luta? Esperava uma vitória tão rápida?

Bom, é claro que a intenção é sempre ganhar o mais rápido possível, mas isso não tem como prever. Estou contente com o resultado.

Você não lutava desde o final de 2009, quando perdeu para o Overeem. Você temia sentir esse tempo afastado?

Sim. Sete meses é muito tempo sem lutar. Graças a Deus treinei bastante e deu tudo certo.

O que você tirou de lição ou aprendizado da luta contra o Overeem?

É muito difícil vencer sempre. Sempre dou o meu máximo nos treinos, mas treino e luta são diferentes. A parte mais difícil para nós lutadores quando não alcançamos o resultado esperado é ser massacrado pelos fãs de luta. Nenhum político corrupto, estuprador, traficante é tão xingado quanto a gente. Mas aprendi a lidar com isso também.

Você agora deve voltar no GP do K-1, mas ainda não tem adversário definido. Qual a expectativa?

A prioridade agora e arrumar sparrings altos. Ainda está um pouco difícil pra arrumar parceiros de treino altos por aqui. Ainda não sei quem será meu adversário, mas quero estar bem preparado.

Ser campeão no K-1 é o seu maior sonho? O que será necessário para conquistar o título esse ano?

Sim, esse é o meu maior sonho. Se Deus quiser, com muito treino e muita garra eu vou conseguir realizá-lo.

Você pretende vir para o Brasil antes da próxima luta?

Sim. Passarei duas semanas no Brasil e depois volto para o Japão para continuar os treinos.

Além do Caratê e K-1, você pensa em lutar MMA?

Atualmente estou 100% focado no K-1. Prefiro deixar pra pensar em outras opções mais pra frente.

Como você vê a sua categoria no MMA hoje? Como você acha que se sairia lutando no UFC?

O atual campeão do UFC, Brock Lesnar, é realmente muito forte, mas eu acredito muito no Cigano. Eu acho que em breve o cinturão estará nas mãos dele. Para eu estrear no MMA precisaria aprender chão, ainda não sei nada.
