Two-time champion of World of Jiu-Jitsu, Rômulo Barral is one of the great favorites for the gold on his weight division, but he knows he will not have an easy way this weekend, when happens the World of Jiu-Jitsu in California, United States. “The expectations are for me to do this on the best possible way. It has really tough guys, I’m very excited and I believe it’ll be one of the hardest championships ever… I can’t wait for it to begin”, said the tough guy.

Coming from a loss on the finale of World Pro in Abu Dhabi, Barral takes his silver medal as a lesson. “From every championship you can learn something new… What I learned in Abu Dhabi, an excellent championship, was that not being the champion is also a part of the process”, said, guaranteeing he will be the Barral we are used to see. “I didn’t change much, my strategy will be the same, I’ll always try the submission. You can see that most of my wins are by submission. I’ll go there to play my game and I’ll try it really hard… What is changing is that I’m not pressured, I’m here without any commitment, I’m here to have some fun”.

Besides the weight dispute, Barral will try to unprecedented vin on the absolute. “I disputed three absolutes, I loss to Xande (Ribeirto) on the quarterfinals of the first time I tried it and I got a silver medal twice, so I want to be the absolute champion this time… I know it’s hard”, said, wanting to keep himself on the top of his division. “I want to defend my title. I fight on the medium heavy since 2003 and I have to lose a lot of weight for this World, I lost over 15 pounds to defend my title… Since 2003 I don’t lose, so I’d rather not change things. I’ll try to become three-time champion and also win this absolute”, warns.

Barral: “Estou aqui para me divertir"

Bicampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, Rômulo Barral é um dos grandes favoritos para o ouro no peso, mas sabe que não terá vida fácil no final de semana, quando acontece o Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu na Califórnia, Estados Unidos. “A expectativa é fazer um campeonato da melhor forma possível. Já está cheio de caras duros, estou muito empolgado e acho que vai ser um dos campeonatos mais difíceis... Não vejo a hora de começar logo esse campeonato”, afirmou o casca-grossa.

Vindo de derrota na final do Mundial Profissional de Abu Dhabi, Barral toma o vice-campeonato como lição. “De todo campeonato você tira algum aprendizado... O de Abu Dhabi foi um campeonato excelente, não fui campeão no peso nem no absoluto, mas acho que isso acontece”, disse, garantindo o mesmo Barral de sempre. “Não mudei muita coisa, minha estratégia vai ser a mesma, sempre em busca da finalização. Pode ver que a maioria das minhas lutas eu ganho por finalização. Vou entrar pra fazer meu jogo e jogar pra frente... O que está mudando é que não estou com muita pressão, estou vindo lutar sem compromisso, estou aqui para me divertir”.

Além do peso, Barral parte em busca do inédito título absoluto. “Já lutei três absolutos, perdi pro Xande (Ribeiro) nas quartas na primeira vez e fiquei duas vezes em segundo lugar, então estou em busca do campeonato absoluto... Sei que é difícil”, disse, querendo se manter no topo da categoria. “Quero defender meu titulo. Luto de meio-pesado desde 2003 e tive que perder muito peso para o Mundial, baixei sete quilos para defender meu titulo.. Desde 2003 que não perco, então não vamos mexer em time que está ganhando. Vou em busca do tricampeonato e do absoluto”, avisa.
