The third day of World of Jiu-Jitsu was full of action in California, United States, with the definition of the absolute’s finale and the quarterfinals of the weight divisions, a category which will know its champions tomorrow, beginning at 2pm (Brazil time).
ROGER AND BARRAL RULE THE ABSOLUTE... AGAIN!
For the third time since 2007, Roger Gracie and Rômulo Barral will decide who will be the absolute world champion. Without having any vantage, Gracie submitted all of his opponents and will confront Barral, who eliminated Xande Ribeiro on a great semifinal fight. “To be honest, I see this finale as any other finale. What motivates me to fight is not the title, who many time I’m the champion or having for title than the other athletes, it goes beyond that”, said Roger, who will not have an easy time on his next fight. “I trained hard because I wanted to get to the absolute’s finale and now I’m fighting for the title… I don’t do strategies, especially when it comes to Roger. I’ll try to make my Jiu-Jitsu work and I’ll go for it”, said Barral.
JOHN DOW BEAT CHAMPION BETWEEN THE LIGHT FEATHERS
Great name among the light feathers, Guilherme Mendes, who was the champion of the division last year, was beaten on his very first fight, being surprised by Paulo Moura, who stood still until the quarterfinals. On the rooster weight division, Bruno Malfacine is still on the dispute, but may face the world champion Felipe Costa on the semifinal. Between the feathers, Rafael Mendes moved forward after applying an flying armbar, and will confront Ryan Hall on the quarterfinals. Cobrinha and Mário Reis also made good presentations on this division, which mostly likely will be dominated by the Brazilians.
STRONG EMOTIONS BETWEEN THE LIGHTS
One of the most disputed divisions of this edition, the light weight is totally unpredictable. Frazatto, Celsinho, Durinho, JT, Langhi, Lepri, Tanquinho… A lot of tough guys got the quarterfinals, leaving the expectation of great fights on Sunday. The same thing happens on the medium weight division, which has the presence two Gracies, Kayron and Kron, on the quarterfinals, besides the world champions Marcelinho Garcia and Sérgio Moraes. On the quarterfinals, Sérgio will do a rematch against Kron, one of the bests on World 2008. The division also has Calasans, Lucas Leite, Finfou and Murilo Santana… It will be hot!
BARRAL WANTS THE GOLDEN MEDAL ON HIS WEIGHT DIVISION TOO
Absolute finalist, Rômulo Barral also showed good performances on his division, and will confront Diego Herzog on the quarterfinals. Weight and absolute champion on Europe, Guto Campos is another strong name on the division, along with Tarsis Humphreys, who was weight and absolute champion on the first edition of World Pro, Eduardo Telles, Otávio de Souza and Nivaldo Oliveira.
DOES XANDE GO FOR THE FIFTH TITLE?
Xande Ribeiro is out of the dispute of the third absolute title, but he can make history on his division, becoming the first five-time champion on the heavy weight division. He was unbeaten on his division and will confront Leo Nogueira on the quarterfinals, but names such as Alexandre de Souza, Bernardo Faria, Rafael Lovato and Nino Schembri may make it difficult for him this road to the golden medal.

On absolute and weight categories, women gave a real show in California. Who shone more was the Alliance’s pair, Gabrielle Garcia and Luanna Alzuguir, who closed up the absolute and guaranteed their presence on the weight’s finale. Talking about weight, thing may get exciting among the lights, with the rematch between Luanna and Kyra Gracie, remaking the duel which defined 2009’s champion. Gracie Barra closed up the feather weight division, while LEtícia Ribeiro and Michelle Nicolini dream about the titles from their divisions.

ROGER E BARRAL DOMINAM O ABSOLUTO... DE NOVO!
Pela terceira vez desde 2007, Roger Gracie e Rômulo Barral decidirão quem é o campeão mundial no absoluto. Sem levar um ponto ou vantagem, o Gracie finalizou todos os seus adversários e pega Barral, que eliminou Xande Ribeiro numa grande luta na semifinal. “Para falar a verdade, encaro essa final como todas as outras. O que me motiva para lutar não é titulo, ser tantas vezes campeão ou ter mais títulos que os outros, é algo além disso”, afirmou Roger, que não terá moleza. “Treinei duro e falei que queria chegar na final do absoluto e vou brigar pelo título... Eu não faço muita tática, ainda mais com o Roger. Vou botar o Jiu-Jitsu pra jogo e vai ser pau pereira”, disse Barral.
ZEBRA ELIMINA CAMPEÃO DOS PLUMAS
Grande nome do peso pluma, Guilherme Mendes, que faturou o título da categoria no ano passado, acabou caindo logo em sua primeira luta, surpreendido por Paulo Moura, que foi firme até as quartas-de-final. No galo, o atual campeão Bruno Malfacine segue firme, mas pode bater de frente com o campeão mundial Felipe Costa logo na semifinal. Entre os penas, Rafael Mendes avançou com direito a arm-lock voador, e pega o gringo Ryan Hall nas quartas. Cobrinha e Mário Reis também deram show na categoria, que deve ser novamente dominada pelos brazucas.
EMOÇÃO DE SOBRA ENTRE OS PESOS LEVES
Uma das categorias mais movimentada este ano, o peso leve está totalmente aberto. Frazatto, Celsinho, Durinho, JT, Langhi, Lepri, Tanquinho... Muitas pedreiras avançaram para as quartas, deixando a expectativa de muitas lutas boas para o domingo. O panorama é o mesmo entre os médios, com a presença de dois Gracie, Kayron e Kron, nas quartas, além dos campeões mundiais Marcelinho Garcia e Sérgio Moraes. Logo nas quartas, Serginho já reedita o duelo com Kron, um dos mais quentes do Mundial 2008. E o peso ainda conta com Calasans, Lucas Leite, Finfou e Murilo Santana... Vai tremer!
BARRAL EM BUSCA DO OURO TAMBÉM NA CATEGORIA
Finalista do absoluto, Rômulo Barral também deu show na categoria, e pega Diego Herzog nas quartas. Campeão peso e absoluto do Europeu, Guto Campos é outro nome forte da categoria, que ainda contra com Tarsis Humphreys, que levou peso e absoluto do primeiro Mundial Profissional, Eduardo Telles, Otávio de Souza e Nivaldo Oliveira.
XANDE RUMO AO PENTA?
Xande Ribeiro está fora da disputa pelo tricampeonato no absoluto, mas pode fazer história na categoria, se tornando o único pentacampeão dos pesados. Ele sobrou no peso e pega Leo Nogueira nas quartas, mas nomes como Alexandre de Souza, Bernardo Faria, Rafael Lovato e Nino Schembri podem complicar sua caminhada rumo ao ouro.
ROGER SONHA COM O HEPTACAMPEONATO NO PESO
Caso vença peso e absoluto em 2010, Roger Gracie se tornará o maior campeão da história da arte suave, conquistando 10 título no total. Ricardo Demente, que quase complicou a vida do Gracie na final do ano passado, está na briga para estragar a festa, além de Tussa e Bruno Bastos, que chegam com força total. No pesadíssimo, Big Mac foi finalizado e está fora da briga, enquanto Vella, Ciborg, Barga Neto, Corleta, Peinado, Cavaca e Pé de Pano seguem firme no domingo.
MENINAS DÃO SHOW À PARTE
Seja no absoluto ou nos pesos, as mulheres deram um verdadeiro show na Califórnia. E quem mais brilhou foi a dupla da Alliance, Gabrielle Garcia e Luanna Alzuguir, que fecharam o absoluto e garantiram presença nas finais dos pesos. E por falar em peso, o clima deve esquentar no leve, com o reencontro entre Luanna e Kyra Gracie, reeditando o duelo que definiu a campeã de 2009. A Gracie Barra já fechou o peso pena, enquanto Letícia Ribeiro e Michelle Nicolini sonham com os títulos em suas categorias.
